CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Don't take our word for it, read for yourself!

Below are all of the customer reviews posted by users in the iTunes App Store. We appreciate ShapeWriter users' enthusium for our revolutionary touch screen text entry technology. We also thank the reviewers whose comments have helped us improve our product. We have resolved the crash bugs reported in earlier reviews and added some of the requested features (more in the pipeline). We are working on ways to avoid losing data during the upgrade for some users, although this appears to be a common problem for many applications. We unfortunately cannot integrate the product fully with applications such as SMS texting in order to conform to the iPhone official SDK rules and restrictions.

APPLICATION DESCRIPTION
ShapeWriter, based upon nearly 10 years of research and development, is an easy, fast, and fun way to write on a computer or mobile device. Instead of "hunting and pecking" letters, single gestures on a touch keyboard produce an entire word. For example: a stroke that roughly connects "w" to "o" to "r" and ends on "d" is recognized by ShapeWriter's intelligent algorithms as the word 'word'.

ShapeWriter on the iPhone is currently a standalone application (formerly known as WritingPad). Use ShapeWriter to create notes that can be saved or sent as an email. You can even reply to other email messages with ShapeWriter.

If you're using ShapeWriter Free, we invite you to upgrade to ShapeWriter Pro which includes additional features for customizing its appearance, re-ordering notes, and turning off the email footer and the advertisements.

A keeper
by Wax is good
This should be the default writing method in all iPhone apps. Get this app!

Should be part of the OS.
by Rsgmoose
Title says it all. Love the orientation compared to the free version.

Great app
by susan404
Please add "market felt" to fonts and a light yellow background like a legal pad. Please consider changing your background colors to lighter colors..like pastel post-its. Thanks!

Holy Crap! This is good!
by Testbs
I also tried the free version with a healthy amount of skepticism. Well no more. Apple needs to license this solution and build it into the operating system for version 2.3. This app goes a long way to removing the need for a physical keyboard and also takes another bite out of RIM's one remaining differentiator - the keyboard.

The Future of Touchscreen Text Input
by o dub
Saw this on Gizmodo and had to try the free version. After trying that, had to buy the full version. This application will astonish you with it's speed and accuracy - being able to simply slide your fingers along the keyboard to type is intuitive and creative. If you use email frequently, or are looking to type notes faster, 10 bucks is not much to pay to experience the system that will be on all touchscreen phones in a few years time. Get the free version to see how incredible it is, then buy it if you want a few more options. This was thought up by the same man who created T9Word, and he should take a bow; this is the future of mobile text input.

I love it! Just one suggestion
by Zanmi
After practicing with ShapeWriterFree, I too, like others, purchased the ShapeWriter Pro. It's true, you can reply to an email through this program, cut and paste, etc. It takes a couple of steps, but it's much easier than pecking the keyboard and messing up because you accidentally touched 2 letters at the same time. One suggestion... I would like to be able to add color to my typed characters (i.e., bold, red lettering for some words that are important, yellow highlights).

I love this app!
by RevSue
I tried out the free version and immediately came back to purchase the full app. I have arthritis in my fingers...and while I keyboard without pain I have trouble with the tiny iPhone keys. This program, with landscape mode, is a dream. I can hold the phone with one hand and slide text with the other---accurately! Should be a "must have" for accessability reasons. Now if we can just get this to work with SMS I'd give it TEN stars. I'd figure out a way.

Fantastic luv the landscape mode!
by WouldUdoit
I luv the new landscape mode. I was hopin u would do that. The bigger keys help. ALso I'm glad you hide the status bar when in landscape. It baffles me when text entry apps don't.

Lame
by Joerj11
Really hard to use. iPhone keyboard is much better. Don't waist your time.

With landscape and SMS capability
by roytoric
This would be a perfect app.

LOVE THIS APP!!!
by NO GOOD NAMES!!!
this is the best app ever u should totally get it it sooooo much dinner when u draw it it is soooooo cool I can't beleive it's free!!!!

Best app ever
by korean boy
I know a lit of people is writing bad reviews about this and I'm here to say this is one of the best apps i've ever got and for some reason this is very fun to type and I wasted a lot of time today playing with it and I ask the apple company if they can add this on the next version of re ipod touch so I can us this for everything that I have to type and since it also let you to type it the original way I don't see why apple souls not add this to the itouch/iPhone

Best app in the world
by privateidaho
I love this application. It really should be integrated into the iPhone,iPod touch, and all macs !!

No tiene gran diferencia
by Vferrer22

make this a system entry option
by /guy
i'd love to have this input method as an option for the entire system. i can go 10 times as fast in this application as i can on the standard keyboard.great job folks!/guy

Pretty High WOW factor
by Jim in the Gorge
Pretty darn Amazing, Apple should BUY these guys and have it as the DEFAULT for the Apple Keyboard.

Very nice and much faster
by asadafus
This would be a welcome addition to the core iPhone os.

Holy $41t
by Corso123
"revolutionized typing" is the understatement of the year. This technology should be part of every keyboard on all touchscreens. Someone nominate these software developers for a Nobel. No Joke. Thank you so much for this software... -brian

Quicker and easier
by ohthehhum.com
I enjoy the technology behind this app and only wish Apple allowed a way to use it in every app on the iPhone.

Having way too much with this!
by lilmisshelpful
What does the pro do that is different and or worth &10? Would pay if it could be used on SMS.

great potential, but ...
by carolei777
i don't understand how anyone can honestly give a raving review to this app .... use it a bit, and you quickly discover quirks that make it pretty unusable - such as words like what's, how's etc being impossible to type (and you can't even add them to the dictionary) - the app just doesn't get words with apostrophe's generally .... typing what is etc all the time is totally lame .... also words like 'today' (with two letters along a line) can be really difficult to type (i get 'toast' at least half of the time, and the worst thing is it doesn't give me today as an alternative in the cases where it chooses toast) .... so it could definitely use a lot of tuning+fixing ... still the general idea is great and if the quirks were solved it would be definitely better than the default keyboard ... and if apple could license this general idea and implement it well and have it as an alternative option, that would be great

Nice idea...
by Caleb Hull
The concept is good but impractical. When I am dragging my finger, I cannot see where I am touching so it is very slow. The iPod keyboard is plenty responsive and the predictive text on it usually knows what I am trying to say. Good idea and the time it must have taken to make a program like this must have been extensive so props there, sadly it's a little ineffective. Maybe I need to use it more to get better, but at this point I feel no reason to want to, sorry.

Love it
by Twoodfla
My favorite way to input text on iPhone. Too bad only works for email. Like everyone else, REALLY wish it could be used for SMS (and app store reviews!). Please Apple make this method a built in option in future iPhones. At first this method will not be faster than one finger typing, but you learn quickly plus making corrections is easier. Some very well thought out features there. Gotta download this app and try it. Surprisingly cool.

Yes!
by 1Cor2:14
This app is now on my iPod Touch page one--Notes is now on page two!

Helppppp
by Archuleta1408
Omg I don't get how u do this! Helpzzzz plz!

Pretty neat
by Kxriderguy
This is a cool app, it does everything it says... And although I probably won't use it to type emails, I'm still giving it four stars for being a cool concept. It would be nice if u could use it to text though...

Real Innovation; Very useful
by Tariq Aziiz
This app makes writing with the iphone a pleasure. In a future release, it would be great if it could replace the standard keyboard for all applications.

Surprisingly accurate
by Piusdog
I found this app easy to apply and it delivers excellent results. Don't want to type anymore. Would gladly pay for this app.

Outstanding.
by adtjones
The best app out there.

Expand to SMS
by Vgooje
Revolutionized typing!

Interested in a landscape option
by YourGardianAngel
I love this for it's ease of use and would be interested in a landscape option just to try it out even if thumb typing is a lot faster

Really works!
by Jin_21
Pretty incredible. Might get some getting used to, but it's really inventive and makes typing faster.

Great Limited App
by -[x]-Man
This app is a great lazy app for typing on the touch screen keypad. Dragging your finger works so well and it's so easy to use. For such a great piece of software it's very limited in what you actually do with it. Sure you can e-mail and make notes but it would probably be more useful if it was SMS capable. Writing Pad may very well be one of those great apps that just sit in the corner of your library waiting to be opened again someday in the distatmt future.

Wonderful for my needs
by benny727
I'm a writer and I sometimes need to jot down a quick idea while on the run. This puppy works great - I swipe my note with a finger and I have it all for when I can sit down at my desk. A hundred times easier than trying to type on the ipod touch.

Fun and fast
by Pasuliamb
One major reason I like this app is the awful clicking noise that the apple notes comes with... This one is blissfully quiet!

Better than slice cheese
by Buggy apps
Would give 5 if it could be used for SMS.

Awesome, but don't stop...
by Iwantiphonetobebetter
Great app. Within just a few minutes I could fly with entries. Most important next step is to add categories for notes. Does no one like to organize stuff on the iphone? Next enable copy-paste ---- please! 16 gigs of memory and no copy-paste; do they still live in the '60s? A cherry on top would be to include encryption - I want to be able to keep confidential info in notes - e.g. patient related info so it needs to be HIPAA compliant. Thanks for this innovation. Apple should pay you lots for it! $$$$$$$

Nice app!
by csdesign
This a great app and much more effective and faster the using the virtual keyboard that comes with the iPhone.. Just wish we could use it for other things besides notes and email. It really needs two things though, besides have new uses such as sms, IM's, or something, and those are popups so you see what letter your finger is over (just like the iphone standard keyboard) and a landscape version so you have more room to type if you turn it sideways. If you do all that, this app would be perfect! If only we could get apple to offically adopt this as an optional method of keyboard input on the entire iphone!

New Text Input System
by voland2000
I use this all the time to write long emails or notes, because clicking on letters is too time consuming. I wish it was compatible across SMS, Gmail, etc.

Cool app but it loads pretty slow
by Azk02
Tried this so for a while and it is pretty cool. Definetly does take a little bit of using to get used to it but once you do it's pretty fast. I am not sure if it is as fast as typing with the on screen keyboard of the notepad app since I can type really fast with it. But i think it would be faster to those who type with one hand. The only problem with this app is that it loads pretty slow when you try to create a new note. Takes a few seconds to load the screen and the onscreen touch keyboard. However I believe that this program will be fixed with future updates.

Pretty clever
by brlaman
If this worked with SMS I'd give it a 5th star

Simply AWESOME
by DoctorMitch
Apple- make this an option for default typing on iPhone/touch! It is soooo fast

Am I missing something?
by GeorgeW6
You have to somehow drag your finger over each letter in a word in correct order and not hit any other letters on the keypad. How the 5 ***** reviewers do that should be put on video. Is it that I am L handed a big hands? I will repent, if you prove this thing works.

This is the future!
by TakeZer0.com
Apple needs to add this as an option for typing normally! It's so amazingly easy to use, I can type around 40 or 50 wpm with it!

Nice
by Jlwhets
This is nice, but I would like the option to be able to post to a blog in addition to being able to email what is written. Good stuff, though.

A couple of small tweaks
by iWhisperer
The biggest use of this app for me is the email feature. To ease transitions from email, add a feature where a new blank note is automatically created and ready to go when switching over and add an 'email & save' and 'email & delete' capability to keep notes tidy. The only real issues I have noticed in the auto-correct feature is words that require apostrophes require you to fully type all characters unlike Apples auto-correct.

Awesome
by Desert Reef
This is an amazing application. I'm surprised by how well it works even when my tracing isn't exact. My only complaint is the position of the backspace key. It's too close to the L key and I end up erasing words accidently. If not for that, I would have given it six stars! I wish it could be used system wide!

Wow
by Hjack1690
I wish all apps involving the keyboard were like this. It's innovative and easy to use as well as very accurate. I would especially love to use this with SMS. Maybe Apple could incoporate this in the future. Keep up the good work.

If only touch always worked this way.
by Kennymccune
Excellent and time saving. If I could use this style of typing in other apps my life would be bliss.

Game changing app
by jhudge05
Typing on the iPhone used to tedious and frustrating for me, but now that I use WritingPad I am actually writing faster on the iPhone than I was on my Blackberry.

The best
by TonyGoodfella
I love this app...it makes writing notes and emails so easy and fast. One request is to make it work with sms the way it works with email. Maybe safari too but mainly sms. Also some font formatting couldnt hurt. Ill use it as my traveling word processor

Love this App- Its a real timesaver!
by VanTreeck
Works great for people with large fingers like myself. Very liquid and intuitive. Brilliant Application

Greate
by Andy.smir
Is's an exlellent idea! More languages please))) 4 example: Russian

Great idea--just needs a bit more work
by daa15
I love this idea, and the tracing concept works surprisingly well. It needs a few tweaks--like better word recognition, but it's a handy little app.

Awesome!!!!
by benc4u
Best I have so far!

Freaking amazingly genius
by JBROS ROCK THE WORLD!!!
This the most amazing application I've seen. It's super accurate and super easy to use and I'm still in awe of how genius it is.

Incredible
by Skundies
This app is so innovative and I love that you can import the text to email! Hopefully we can somedat use it for SMS too

I only gave 5 stars because there wasn't 10
by leenpaula
It is the best AP I have ever used ! I can write 10 times fastet already!!

Thank you for this program!
by Minhuang
I just wish I could plug writingpad to work with all the iPod applications like 'hacks' did for the old palm pilots- I could have typed this in half the time. Wonderful program, and thanks for making it free with no adware/nagware. I will be looking for your pay programs on the strength of what you have provided here.

Amazing
by Holdn2aces
Love it! Now I am going to twitter it to all by friends! Peace out holdn2aces

Amazing speed and accuracy
by GuruMicro Columbus
If it had the ability to copy and paste that would be nice. Then I could have used it to submit this review! Very promising technology none the less. I do agree with previous posts that apple should take note of the recognition abilities of this app and do wish for landscape mode.

awesome!
by kimhatesyouu
i wish this was on texting. so easy to use. and the keyboard is easy on the eyes.

Great idea!
by Presley Duggan
Software is amazing

Finally, a text entry I can use!! Wish it was default for all iphone text entry...
by jcdoyleonline
This is an incredible idea. I have been so impressed with both the ease of use and user interface. I just wish somehow Apple and/or the developer could make this method of text entry an option for anytime keyboard entry is needed, without switching applications. This is hands down way better than the hunt and peck method, with the tiny keyboard buttons. I'm using this program for any emails now I send out that are long, for notes, including lecture notes (no more paper needed!) since I can enter words almost as fast as a speaker can say them. GREAT program!

Outstanding app
by T8Rtech
Much more efficient than standard keyboard entry. I wish it were available as default input.

Great apps, just a few ideas for the next release
by Jocosite
I second all the reviews mentioned below. It works suprisingly well.Just a few things (in priority order) to make it a 5-star app:1. Support multi language. Adding French for me would be great. I'm sure many folks out there could use Spanish, Italian or German.2. Can you fit the apostrophe sign on the keyboard. It's a real pain right now to type "I'm", "let's", etc... Maybe in replacement of the command button which I never used.3. Support landscape mode as mentioned by others below. I rank it as #3 because for me, a small keyboard enables meto go fast. The app is forgiving enough. But all in all, a MUST-HAVE app! Thanks to the developer!

German dictionary
by Ckislam
Please add more dictionaries. I need the german language.

really like this
by LazyMF
i think apple should buy your company that i can use it on iphone directly

:-)
by Exsomos
Love it! Saw it on tv. Can see this getting big.

Awesome app
by Spartan Scorpion
A very useful app. One of the best features I've seen so far

Wow
by Grigerny
Love it

Nothing special but ok
by keirstinc
I used this as a secondary note app. It doesn't offer a great deal more that is useful over the notepad, but that worked fine for me. Only problem is with the last update, I lost ALL of my notes. So, this app is worthless to me now (I have removed it) and I have now lost all the information that was in it.

Very Cool
by mikesingletary
I gets it almost every time. Why doesnt Apple add ShapeWriting capability to their own Notes app and to the SMS texting? It would make things much more convenient.

Just wish all my apps had this input method
by Swreck
Nice way to add text. At first, seemed too limited. But since I learned about hitting "reply" in email, then opening the app, then hitting "email" to add the note text to the reply, I use it constantly. Of course, I wish the keyboard could be used in all apps, but that doesn't seem a valid reason to reduce the rating.

Best input mode - please make widescreen
by ltoutlook
This is my fave input when I need to write something longer. I've been using it since it was the only option to Notes. It now has competition from several widescreen keyboards that I also like (especially the one that does colors and fonts). Anyway - I would be thrilled at an update, especially if it added a larger keyboard. I don't think it would be slower - I think it would be more quickly accurate. And really - other developers need to be incorporating this engine. Wow!

Needs better contractions recognition
by TBear-VT
GREAT app but I wish it more readily picked up ok contractions such as "I'm" and "I've". Otherwise it's fantastic!

Impressive!!!
by Dat Cool Chica
I really gave it hard combinations and it was on target 90% of the time and if not the word list gave it to you... It should be standard...

One of the most useful iPhone apps
by drdallas
I use this, it's tremendous. I really think Apple should license the technology and use it as the default keyboard mode; it makes writing emails much faster.

Very impressive!
by McQ14
It took me a few days of use to get used to it but it works great. I'm still faster with the default iPhone keyboard, but this is amazing app. It amazes me when it figures out words. My only problem is that I never took a real typing of keyboard class and have to see the keyboard to type anything, so I make a lot of mistakes. But I do that with all keyboards, so it's a personal issue! Great app!

Languages!!!!
by seb:aschen
It's great!!! But please add languages support!!!! (spanish please!!!!)

Please integrate this, Apple!
by RedwoodTrie
Don't think twice about downloading this app. It saves so much time, I love it!

Great, but...
by hquest
Can't you add some portuguese database? The corrector mess with all my words, so i always write messages in english, but other languages will be great.

Please Apple, use this keyboard for everything
by Bodnarbm
Unbelievably useful, fast, and easy

Speechless
by Dezboi
Wow, wow, wow. I initially was skeptical, but I am totally and completely impressed with the product. Good interface, easy to use. Wow!

Awesome App
by Appstore Reviews
Needs a few things: Subject line input for both notes and email. Wide screen input. Apple needs to change SDK to allow notes and SMS input from 3P apps. Would love to be able to set this as primary input for all keyboard apps.

Incredible!
by Warhkap
Bravo! Thank you.

uh...ok.
by KeyMaestro
This is a nice app, but after having it for months, I've found no real use for it. It seems easier to use the Apple keyboard. But, as I said - this is a good app that works as it claims. It just seems mildly redundant to me.

Awesome!
by LupeValenz
They need to make this the default input. I love it, it works well and very easy to slide than to poke around. One feature I like to see in writing pad, a search feature. I plan to use this as my journal and would like to look up certain events as it begins to fill up.

Unbelievable
by InnaB
This application works impeccably (it even recognized impeccably). I would definitely pay to have it for notes that would sync with my desktop.

Great App how do we get more out of it ?
by Robmcd1
Fantastic app works very very well , how can we use this as the default entry keyboard ? the error rate (after practice) on this is next to 0 well done bring on the default keyboard setting

4.5 stars!
by Style it not
Love it. Genius apps

Fantastic. Should be part of iPhone
by fidus achates
Apple should make it a default keyboard. So easy to use and finally write SMS naturally as on good phone.

Word list for typed words
by Thudge
Besides the already sugestions of other users to have widescreen here goes some of my own. Better integration of the application with other applications that requires texting. Build a word list for words that are being "typed". By typing a sequence bellow: D-E-M-O-C It would buid a list of words that start with those letters. These implementations would make it a 5 star.

Very cool
by JPT006
Worth every dime! Oh, wait it was free. Great app...and yes I agree with everyone else...this technology is a must for every application. Wish I could have used it to type this.

Would love to see more
by Mav64
This application rocks; I only wish that it would provide a little bit more. Here is a list of suggestions: - widescreen input option - be able to save text to a file - folders for organizing text files - ability to use text for sending a SMS - cut, copy, paste functions - access to the saved text files from wifi locally - possibility of synchronizing text files with the web, ie: google documents With these functions it would be perfect.

AMAZING!
by Healingbirth
This is amazing! I can't believe how well it works! Can we get a way to use this for texts?!

Needs landscape mode!!!
by Cat cat cat
Otherwise incredible app...

Really amazing -- wish it could be the default text entry mode for the whole phone
by Argelius1
This is amazing technology! Can't add anything to the multitude of previous reviews. It really works and has speeded up my typing considerably. Too bad I am sure Apple would never allow the ability to use this as the default text entry mode across all applications. Definitely worth the free download! Would be great if it could also be used for SMS.

Incredible!
by Sfvenn
This app is amazing. I wish I could type this review with it instead of the apple default keyboard. It's just so much fun to use. Steve, license it or buy them outright. A real winner. Please integrate into other apps until copy paste arrives or apple buys you!

A brilliant app
by JakeinSC
If Steve Jobs has half of a brain, he will pay the programmer a very large sum of money and integrate this technology into the phone's normal keyboard input. The only complaint I have about this app is that it this hasn't happened yet.

ShapeWriter is almost revolutionary
by reesevans
I've been using this app for a week or two, on both iPhone 3G and iPod Touch. It has never crashed either platform, it has a high recognition and rate and seems to learn your patterns. This is pretty sophisticated recognition technology for free, can't get better than that. I agree with all the reviewers who want to see it as an optional input method for the iPhone/Touch keyboard. Landscape mode would be nice too.

Very nice
by Noor ny
It is very nice app for peoples who are slow in iPhone keyboard and it's free.

Amazing
by HomeCraft
This truly an amazing app. I can't believe how effective it really is. And it free. WOW. Food for thought: how bout adding highlighters. 2nd Review: 10/08/08 This is still one of the best typing app in the app store, but I recently notice that there are apps. that just hit the store that are able to type in landscape mode. Let's get this done in the next Update. Stay #1

Mr
by MarcPage
Seems to work great for taking English notes, but it is actually faster (and less frustrating and more accurate) to take technical notes in Apple's notepad App.

Wow
by zKeeper12
This is a great app. Understanding that this is on the app store solely as an experiment for the system behind this, the system is near perfect. My only complaint for this as an app is that I have to pause andlook for the letter I need under my finger, so maybe the developer could implement a system where it shows the letter your finger's on like the iPhone does when you are typing regularly, this would get an 11 out of 10 easy.

So good I already miss it.
by StingersSwarm
This is the first time I have actally liked an app so much that I felt compelled to submit a review. After maybe a minute and a half using this app I already miss it in writing this review. This Is so good I really wish I could cut and paste bow because I wouldn't type with anything else. I hope that apple might consider rolling this function into future software updates for the iPhone so I can shape write in any situation.

ah-mazing app!
by glossipgirl21
I don't see why shapewriter Inc. doesnt charge $3 or more for this and I also can't see why apple won't ease up on their rules so that this company can integrate the keyboard into more than notepad. oh well, it's free (shockingly) and I'd like to thank the makers because it works just as promised.

It's smart
by Toxic99
It is acutite and it learns I would pay 99 cents for it

does what it says it would do
by glg61
very accurate, you don't have to trace your finger path exactly and it comes up with the right word, or at least a short list with the right word. the "it can't remember a learned word" issue, if that were solved, would bump this to an easy 5, and an app that i'd pay for. thanks for keeping it free.

Works perfectly
by Turtle BBQ
This application works like magic, wish Apple it could me integrated to my default iPhone keyboard too so I could easily utilize that shape-writing fuction to other programs!

Amazing!!! Must have...
by Nicki456hz
Love the ease of this app. I find myself wanting to send an email just to use this wonderful way of composing a note. There is room for improvement as others have reported & the one thing we are wishing on a star for is to be able to use this mechanism for text messages. If that can be acheived, this app will be priceless!!! Eitherway, this is a must have. I'd pay $$$ to be able to use this for texting! Seriously. Compared to other foolishness in the app store, this gets a ten star rating. On it's own however, I give it a 4 & not 5 only bc I hope to see it progress. :)I-<

Very simple and intuitive.
by Wanderscribe
Very easy to learn. Able to use it for email, including replies, without too much effort.Would like to be able to short notes, and have a minimal choice of fonts.Would also like to be able to use it for texting. Thanks for the App.

Very nice but needs more
by Mistadj2u
I would have giving this a much higher rating. Its nice and accurate but would be better if it would work in landscape because the letter would be slightly bigger and It needs to work with SMS

SMS support
by Ckislam
If it just supported typing sms...

Seems really great so far
by SeattlePam
I've just started using this (just got my iPhone a couple of days ago). So I don't know about long-term stability issues others have mentioned. But so far, I'm simply blow away by how easy it is to enter text this way. Typing with the regular keyboard I find really awkward. I especially like that with WritePad you can't misspell a word.I do wish it would recognize contractions -- such as "I'll" -- since I use them a lot in emails etc. Overall, fantastic app.

Love it
by Laishere
Great for notes&email. I'd have 5 stars if I could use for Texting

Awful upgrade
by Redbeard20
The new upgrade deleted all of my old notes!

Very nice app
by medhed
I find this app quite helpful. What I would really like to see is some way of coordinating this with SMS texting. Still a great app with email and note writing but texting would put it over the top.

Just tried it out and I love it so far!

Amazing timesaver
by Premier Coding Solutions, Inc
I can write emails WAY faster than before by using this app. My only wish is that I could use the WritingPad for ALL data entry... i.e. Text messages, other apps, writing app reviews even

Do you want very fast typing? Get this!
by ~nexus~
This type of analysis of tablet movement has been around for 20+ years, but now computer speed and algorythms have caught up to get the job done. You'll be typing almost as fast as you can speak. Excellent Job! I can't wait to see where your work leads to next.

Doesn't it crash too often?
by Neesee
Deleted! It's not on my phone anymore. I liked it first though.

Innovative
by kuraz
This app is a good technology showcase for a better keyboard solution. I can't use it (don't want to tease myself with it not integrated into the device and therefore not available for SMS), but I would love it if Apple made this functionality native to the device. 5 stars for the idea and reference implementation alone.

You have to try this!
by 3rdragon
I hope apple looks into integrating this app/techlonogy into it's keyboard. I want to use it to text, email, write reviews, ect.

Simply Amazing!
by Pixeljuggler
I wish I could do this on my desktop computer.

I'm
by Christian V
Please add the apostrophe to "I'm". What does "Im" mean anyhow? Cool concept.

Genius
by Twistfunk
Surprisingly accurate, fast, and fun-- I would love to use this for texting and web browsing, but notes and email are dramatically improved using WritingPad instead of the proprietary iPhone keyboard. I love how WritingPad allows you to go back and choose a different word from the toolbar if it messes up, and you can add words to the dictionary with a visual confirmation. Try it out!

Awesome program - what a feature shape writing is!
by Ljg--
Excellent way to type on an iTouch (iPhone). The one thing I'd like to see in the next iteration is landscape mode for a bit larger keyboard.I hope Apple sees this shape writing technology and considers incorporating it into these wonderful little companions. It is about four or five times faster to type this way...and that's after only 10 minutes messing with it. I bet after an hour, it will be second nature, and all the other programs which require manual input a letter-at-a-time will seem out of date. Thanks for this great utility!

A suggestion?
by mcylinder
I think it's great and the previous concerns seemed to be addressed. Seeing as dragging is the key feature for selecting typing keys, how about using that for editing as well? Drag over a word to select it and then cut, copy paste etc. That's be really helpful.

great app
by ssombra
i have just tested it and i think it is a great app. It increases the writing process in a very natural way. It is a shame that it is only available in english. I hope that ShapeWriter considers another languages in the near future (spanish?)

Unreliable
by Mjd200811112
I used this application successfully and grew to use it for work-related memos. However, when I downloaded the last update all of my notes were erased. I would not recommend using this for any important information as you may unexpectedly lose it.

Wow!
by 629
Awesome, free app!

Worth it
by mldinslc
Just down loaded and think it's a great alternative to tapping your finger a million times to your screen. Well worth the download.

Should become universally available text-entry option on iPhone
by flatrockdam
I love this simple, intuitive text-entry program, and I wish I could select it as my preferred text-entry option throughout the iPhone. Why hasn't Apple integrated this already? Please note current version now remembers vocabulary you add. I hope Apple will post a date and version number with each reviews so that complaints that have been resolved do not tarnish the reputation of the software. Either that or the manufacturer should be able to indicate that an issue has been resolved.

Excellent!
by SandyPod
I only wish this app could be used for all text entry fields. Shapewriting is definitely more efficient (and it's kind of fun too)! I like how you can return at any time to other possible/suggested words too. Well done!

Awesome
by Cvrcmember
Excellent app, good job!

Disappointing
by Kah22206
Would be a nice game if it didn't freeze every other round. How annoying. I deleted it after a couple of attempts at playing it. Very disappointing.

Too Cool !!!
by jovial_71
Thank you for this app! It works like I do, with efficiency. I keep this one on my front page, as a primary tool. Cheers!

Brilliant
by xmatthewx
Brilliant idea. Truly unique. It takes a minute to get use to, but it works surprisingly well. I hope it's integrated with more than just email. Then it'll be an indespensible utility.

Needs SMS
by Hgfghkl
I love this app but it needs to have the ability to text message and not just email

Awesome
by Rockee712
The app is really smart and the system works really well, but I find the good ole qwerty apple keyboard to be more reliable. Still it's definitly worth a try.

This app deserves no less than 5 stars
by SoEffinMajor
I absolutely love this app and wish it came with the iPhone automatically. The idea that I can trace letters to make words is fantastic. The app is so easy to use, I find myself using it more and more each day. This is a must-have for every iPhone user. Great great app.

Nice!
by Mogron
Great app works better than I thought. Took a little getting used too but my first impression gives it a thumbs up!

Very pointless
by LilWeezyanna
I type 100X faster and more correct on the iPhone's default keyboard. Don't waste your time....

Sweet!
by FreakyFantom
I wish the main iPhone keyboard had the capability throughout the entire OS. Love it!!

So much faster than one-finger typing!
by Ted M from NJ
In one quick and free download I went from impractical attempts to use my iPhone for note taking to very practical note taking -- about 4 to 5 times faster! Apple should integrate this into every application that involves typing. Sure it can be improved (slow launch, would be nice to have a wider 'landscape' keyboard and a direct way to add new words) but such a giant leap earns 5 stars.

Great idea; has potential
by ElessarElfstone
It works well for me. However, it takes too long to load. It would be great to be able to transfer the text to other things than just email - maybe text messages.

Great program!
by Dickie Dubs
I love this app. It's cut my email writing time in half. I only wish you could import text into email replies and text messages. Maybe when the Apple "geniuses" figure out a simple copy and paste function...

Doesn't Save
by foreveryoung963852
It works just great except for the most important part about actually saving a note. I type something in, and hit "done", then go back to the main menu to see that the note i just wrote has been deleted, save for like 10 characters. =(

Good ap.
by Imoll
Spanish version please

Awesome
by non_zero
I would happily pay for this. Wish there were more export options , like SMS.

Really Great
by George Jenkins
I will "type" all email on my iphone with this app from now on. After about thirty minutes, you can write very quickly with few wrong guesses. Any chance for SMS support?

Good App But...
by fan49
Good app when it works. When I tried to create a new note, and before I could write something, the app created an empty note and quit on its own. Afterward, I noticed empty note was created, and when I opened the empty note I noticed the date on top of the note was December 31, 1969. When I was able to get into a new note, and write for a little bit, the app suddenly quit.

ShapeWriter could be better
by Fat Finger
ShapeWriter's on screen key pad, when used with a stylus, works great. But with my big fat finger, its more like sewing on a button while wearing boxing gloves. There is no way to see where the track-line is or what keys I'm crossing. Apple knows this. The default keyboard displays the active key as a pop-up icon. Suggestion:Move the keypad display higher up a few millimeters and separate the finger contact point from the track-line so that the finger can pass "under" the desired keys? In other words the track-line would appear slightly above the finger tip when shapewriting.Don't provide an option of seeing the inputs that are currently occluded on finger sensitive screens, "WritingPad" will suffer the fate of the Dvorak layout. Everyone agrees the Dvorak layout is superior to the QWERTY, after you learn it. Similarly shapewriting would be superior after much practice. So you must lower the threshold for the beginner, or be as common as Esperanto.

Wonderful App
by Black Belt B***h
I love this app. It is much easier to use and I think APPLE should incorporate this on all iPhones and iTouches as an option to their standard keyboard. I hesitate to give it 5 stars only because it has crashed my phone a few times and it does have some irritating flaws that I personally don't care for. But overall, major kudos to the developers and I can't wait for the updates to come in to make this app even better.

Absolutely incredible
by Lertulo
Spend 3 minutes with this and you'll hate ever using the built-in keyboard again. I'm with the other poster below who said this thing should be licensed by apple. On the negative side, the app's display is very slow to scroll, and the app is unresponsive for several seconds after loading. Minor problems; I'm definitely willing to pay for an update.

Forget It!
by DART
Don't waste your time!!!!

Best idea ever!!
by BMoney$$$
The title speaks for it's self. Apple needs this as an update optional for all areas!

Totally cool
by Kaempen
The ability to pick word choices makes this a killer app

Great idea
by Cowcowcowcowcow
It is a great concept, but I found it a little hard to use some times. It's either hard to use the writingpad, or I'm just no good at it.

Sorry, just don't see the point!
by FunkyMan3333
I didn't find it faster to use this mechanism of typing compared to just typing on the normal keyboard. Doesn't categorize notes (which is missing from the iPhone altogether), so I just didn't see the point - it's deleted...

Great idea
by pattithepotato
This is the beginning of a great idea. If only it could extend to other areas too

Great for long emails
by JaneiR36
Wow, if Apple ever introduced copy and paste, we'd be unstoppable with this App! I'm pretty good at using the regular keyboard, but only when I at it down and type on a surface, just like aregular keyboard. Shapewriter would be an excellent alternative when that's not an option. Plus, being able to use it to write and respond to emails? Wow, is all I can say!

Really amazing! Must have!
by MoonPod
Great writing tool - definitely faster than typing for longer messages. Since it doesn't always guess correctly - or I don't finger accurately, short messages sometimes take longer due to corrections. And free? Whoa!

Can't wait for upgrades
by Utah Hands
Very cool writing tool. It takes a little getting used to but learns quickly and is fairly intuitve. Would be nice if it had better editing tools and options, but awesome for quick notes and such. Even corrects my typical spelling errors. Go Team!!!

why doesnt it work with other stuff?
by redtom82
i use my notes and SMS a lot and this application doesnt work with any of those. you have to use a seperate application to write stuff in. totally worthless.

What's the point?
by LightnnRod
Easier to use your thumbs. I can't imagine anybody would be faster tracing than thumbing. If you don't have the keyboard perfectly memorized, and if your moves aren't smooth as glass, you will do lots of do-overs. If you do, you are gifted, and my hat is off to you.

Amazing
by Rohit
Too good Absolutely amazing A must have

Best app
by Master_Phantom
I think apple should add this to the iphone note app. Great app, love it.... Now I can't decide witch one should I delete, the original note app or this one. ..... Think it's going to be the original.

Incredible
by Sbz
Apple should incorporate this into their standard keyboard!!! It's much more efficient and so easy

swish!
by gutzee99
this app works great and was a breeze to get used to - wish i could use it as the text message entry :(

Fantastic. Should be part of iPhone
by fidus achates
Apple should make it a default keyboard. So easy to use and finally write SMS naturally as on good phone.

Wow
by TARDISfan
This is great. It takes some getting used to, but once you do, I'll never want to go back to this typing on the keyboard.

Awesome!
by Megreed014
I love the app, especially after having to come back to the original keyboard to write this review. The app itself is great, but just after a couple of uses it crashes everytime I use it. It gets frustrating when you're in the middle of an email. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because of the crashing issue. Other than that, this app is incredibly impressive and remarkably useful!

Apple should make it default input method for iPhone
by Patrick Surry
Very cool core technology, much more effective way of typing than hunt & peck. Various frustrations with the UI make it painful to use in practice though:- Apple needs to make this available as a plugin replacement for their keyboard throughout- Why not standard offset keyboard layout rather than grid? - When used as standalone app (switching back & forth with Apple's keyboard), it should match their layout (e.g. location/label of bksp, cr keys etc) since we've all learned that now- I find it much more painful to go back and make corrections than in Apple's layout (although I less often need to): - Insert caret seems to jump around unexpectedly sometimes, esp when deleting. - Apple's magnifying glass to move caret is better. - Delete modes seem odd - sometimes it kills the word, sometimes the letter, haven't got the intuition yet.

Ingenious!
by Gelmen
I love this app. Yet another brilliant app to show off the iphone's touchscreen capabilities. It really does make typing faster, but takes a little practice. I'm recommending this to everyone!

Great app!
by abbynormal
This is the most useful app I have installed on a while. The potential is staggering - like everyone else I'd love to see this go native iPhone. I would also like to see other languages supported; I am learning Japanese, and can see this being one of the best study aids at my disposal.

Neato!
by Elmo the executioner
So cool

Neat but slow to access
by jkcrws
I downloaded this because I was getting frustrated with the keyboard in Notes (fat fingers?); WritingPad is a little easier for me to use, the word recognition is great. My beef is that there's a long delay between the time you launch the app and the time you can actually do anything: you tap on one of the notes or the plus button to add notes and nothing happens for 10, 15 seconds, which seems like an eternity and makes you think your phone is bricked!

Nice
by Jrfan87
I first saw this type of typing in tablet pcs and someone got smart and brought it to the iPhone! would also like to see a landscape mode. Love it.

Wow
by Dan the PIEman
I just wish I could have used this app to write the review. Apple...ADOPT THIS!!!

Awesome!
by its the bam
So easy to type with! I wish I could use this in the AIM app and others. Attention Apple: license this app as a useable native keyboard!

Love it!
by Starbellyfaith
I don't even have enough patience to type a full review with this regular keyboard. So I'll just say this: I wish to God I could use this for ALL my iPhone typing. Pure genius. I've shown it off to everyone. I can finally write a decent length email from my iPhone without wanting to kill myself. Thank you so much!

Truly Enjoy Using This Program
by terrcly
I wish that I could write most everything on my iPod touch with this program.

Awesome
by Kram 101
This is how the keyboard should have come from Apple.

Great App!
by CreativeFiction
At first blush this app doesn't appear to be all that special but I dare you to compose a long email using it. When you are dropped back to the normal iPhone keyboard to finish sending the email it seems "clunky". The more I use it the faster I get with it. In fact, I am a little annoyed that I cannot use it to write this review. I hope Apple will license it to use as an option for the main text input for the iPhone.

Interested in a landscape option
by YourGardianAngel
I love this for it's ease of use and would be interested in a landscape option just to try it out even if thumb typing is a lot faster

Great application!
by Luckytomato
My go to for drafting new emails and making notes. Would love option to cut and paste into applications other than email.

Wonderful app
by MileyCyrusRules
This is one of the best apps I have ever gotten! I use it everyday. And the best thing about it is that it's free! What could be better than that! The only bad thing is that sometimes it crashed. I would gladly recomend it, except for the hole crashing the system thing. Hehe...

Great potential...
by PsychLik
...but still lacking in execution. The crash frequency on latest version makes WP unusable for anything other than stunning friends & family (@ which WP still excells). For those who have not tried this app, download & enjoy. It's the most creative text entry method since Palm's graffiti, and has a great future. BTW, all crashes are of app only: I've never had WP crash my phone. To the developers, don't rest on your laurels! You've got a great tool here. Make it usable! I'd pay $5 for a stable version with the ability to create a folder hierarchy and generate checklists.

Crashes to often
by iRoot
I am finding that for some reason this app crashes way to often now. It used to be good, now I can barely use it. For the devs, I find that when doing specific things such as switching between letters and numbers or trying to add words or other little things seem to cause crashes for me.

Artist
by Lautrec
This application continuously crashes. I've installed it three times but it works no more that five or six times before it freezes or simple shuts off upon opening it. I love its potential and very much wish it worked in my phone.

Great
by JoshuaRay
This application works excellently. The only thing I would suggest for future updates is the ability to write text messages.

Best app ever
by korean boy
I know a lit of people is writing bad reviews about this and I'm here to say this is one of the best apps i've ever got and for some reason this is very fun to type and I wasted a lot of time today playing with it and I ask the apple company if they can add this on the next version of re ipod touch so I can us this for everything that I have to type and since it also let you to type it the original way I don't see why apple souls not add this to the itouch/iPhone

don't waste your time...
by moveingfaster
Not worth the time it takes to download it!

Too slow
by busterp
Works well but loads slow. I do my planning on something else and use the note pad to write down stuff real quick. Problem is there is no real quick when it comes to how long it takes to load. It works great for writting something long, and if you have time to wait for it to load. I would use it if it had a faster load time. It would be nice to be able to move lines too, but thats just on my wish list.

Best keyboard ever
by mattieo22
I LOVE IT AND IT OWNS THE REG. Keyboard

ohh emm gee
by Skeenzzzz
this thing is freeking amazing! -fun -free -easy -friends love it just make sure if it is a new word you hit add so that it is in the dictionairy. an don't hit the space bar. it messes you up. other than that I love it!

Whoa!!
by liquidmist2001
Very cool app, takes al ittle getting used to foe those of us that have become familiar with the iPhone keyboard...

Quite accurate!
by Kenop
Great concept and more accurate that I thought it would be. After only about ten minutes with it, typing this review on the standard keyboard is painful. It's free so give it a try.

Huge improvement over Iphone keypad
by loanflyer
I have "fat finger symdrome" and cannot type on the Iphone. Thank goodness for this program! Now, I can actually write emails!

writing pad
by please help me out im confused
hey everyone i just wanted to kow if it works well so can u give me some reviews cause im getting my iphone soon so help me out and tell me if i should get it please thanks bye!

Functions Great, should replace iphone input system
by matt-e-oh
this works great, aside from it being a little slow, it allows me to type so incredibly fast and with only one hand. I'm am thoroughly amazed. I would love to see this style of input incorporated in the next release of the iphone software.

Genius for portrait mode typing
by Joe Types
I have to give it 5 stars for being such an ingenius invention. If Apple is going to insist on locking us into portrait mode for all typing-heavy apps, they should really let us shape-write! I know I know probably won't happen but still... However, if we stop being punished with this stupid tiny keyboard and get the option to type e-mails, notes, txts, etc with the spacious landscape keyboard, thumb-typing pwns this app! Still, 5 stars for such a brilliant idea.

Better than the keyboard
by Bhogge
I haven't been using this app long but I think this is easier to use than the iPhone keyboard. I wish it were a toggle on off to use with all apps on the device...earth to Steve

Very clever
by Shalmanese
This is an amazing interface if you're willing to put some time into learning it. After about 3 hours, your actions start becoming completely natural. Only wish it could replace the default keyboard in more situations. Writing this review was a major pain after experiencing writing pad!

Not horrible
by I don't particularly care for Miley
It's easier to type normally. Very creative though. If I was the developer I would create an app where you traced a letter and it would get the word like that.

Really impressive interface
by Mightius
Ok, let's be honest, this is just another notepad. But the shapewriter interface with the keyboard is exceptional. Apple should really get these guys to provide this interface for the iPhone OS proper... Even as just an alternative option to the current mode. Really worth the try!!

"trace a word"? Poor description. Excellent software!
by App-Store-Guy
The description said "tracing word shapes".What does that mean? To write D-O-G... I draw a dog? I "trace" the shape? To spell Mississippi, I draw a picture of the state? No.The description of this software is VERY mislead. The software itself... is amazing. This should be the actual description: "You drag your finger... from letter to letter... spelling out the word. You only lift your finger... after you are done with the entire word."If you are even CLOSE to doing it right... the software will guess at the word you wanted. It seems to get it correct... about 90% of the time. (Additional 'guesses' are also offered... making things even more accurate.)You can now spell Mississippi: Misisipi... and it corrects the spelling for you!I can now write about 2-3 TIMES faster than I can on the default Apple keyboard. Now the bad news: This can NOT be used to replace the default Apple keyboard built into the phone?Note to Apple: This new method needs to be available in a future iPhone OS release.

Not has fast
by Vernin44
It's a good app for small words but you can wright faster without it.

New App
by iknowmusic27
I want someone to make an app that allows you to type emails, SMS, and notes with the keyboard facing horizontally like on most efficient texting phones

Amazing
by W_H
Great app! This thing works very well and can only get better. Give it a try. Great option for writing longer emails and notes.

Ok
by Bcurbhuehsidhgsvyxhhdudnd
Ok

Have to agree.
by Joey_C
This app has an interesting new concept with input but isn't very feasible... The people on here that want this software licensed don't know what they're talking about... I mean, are you kidding me?! This isn't that good or perfected. I don't see how you can perfect this concept. 1- star because everyone gave it such a high rating that this doesn't deserve!

Fast and furious note taking
by spedygnzls
Unbelievable technology and implementation! I thought I could tap fast on the iPhone's keyboard, but this is SO much easier and faster once you get used to the process. Long words can be a hit or miss. The app shines in comparison to tapping (allowed as well) when trying to take quick notes on the fly. It would be great if it had the option of getting sound feedback on the times you do need to tap out the letter/words. I agree with others, Apple should definitely license this technology and integrate it into the iPhone OS. Fantastic app! It was one of the first one's I downloaded and have constantly use it.

Great!
by Joe Dynomite
One of the best apps for the iphone! Fun and easy to use!

Brilliant!
by Mikmeister
This app rocks! Try it and you'll see how fast it is! Only wish it had a landscape keypad.

Solves a big problem for me
by Liberty BASIC
This software does have a cool approach to typing. Neat. More important for me is that you can use this software to store form letters. Write a form letter and save it. When you want to respond to a message in your inbox with a form letter, reply to it. Then immediately switch to this software and select your form letter. Tap the email button and you will be sent back to Mail. Your form letter is inserted into the reply! Great! Now if Apple would only give us a clipboard... :-/ In the meanwhile, this app does the trick! :-)

SO AWESOME
by Teerays
I was beyond pleasantly surprised at this app! It is a must have- or at least see for yourself!!

This should be an input option for all apps
by Fast Typer
I'm pretty quick with the usual iPhone keyboard but am much faster with this app. I've also been impressed with its big vocabulary (it even knows "coolio"). So far, I haven't had any problems with it forgetting what I teach it. My only concern is that it seems slow to open--I find myself staring at a blank note with some anxiety until my stuff appears. But the fast input more than makes up for the delay in opening.

Two Thumb Typing Is Better
by TBobo
I cannot identify with the hype. This was much slower and less reliable for me then just typing with both thumbs on the iPhone.

Quick Words.
by Alan the Maple Table
It's great to see this kind of technology happening. The concept and relative lack of learning curve is commendable. I marvel at the programming that went into this, so when it sometimes crashes on start-up, I'm not too bothered. Hopefully, updates will amend this problem.Either way, it seems that it would be great (for users and ShapeWriter developers alike) if Apple were to impliment an option for this type of gestural word entry for platform-wide text entry.

Very nice app!
by SkubiDoo
Must have before it's removed (rotation of apps) ! Wish I could use the app to type this review hehe

Nice but not enough
by Jkillerk
Is a good app and I try to get use to it, but with time I could use for all my notes

Fast and easy
by stratvic
So clever and easy to use.

This is cute, but...
by Mike231
What the heck is the difference? You still have to touch the letters! I find typing on the iphone keyboard to be way faster and more accurate. It's very hard to believe that people find this app easier to write with. I mean it's definitely a cool idea, but come on!

Simple, easy to use, great layout
by Itouch noob
Just got an Itouch so getting used to it van be difficult at times but this app was simple and works great. I wish apple would consider making some optional keyboard layouts like this for those who have problems on the default one. Great app can't wait to see what they do with updates

WOW, so far so good...
by BrunerMA
With regard to remembering custom words between quitting (and even powering off, just to be sure), I've had no problems. My company name is a custom word with two sets of double letters and it seems to work just fine, perhaps I have a different version than the other guy's review. I will agree, the font and keys should change, it should remain different than the default keyboard (for the primary reason that it prevents an absent mindedly mistaking the iPhone's default keyboard for the WritingPad keyboard), and I'll agree more aesthetically pleasing icons for Email and New would be nice. I was also impressed with the Auto-Save functionality, exposed in Settings. (Has the "Immediately 'AutoSave' when a call comes in" use case been handled?) I haven't had an incident where this has happened, but it occurred to me while I was using it.I'm not a fan of the ATOMIK keyboard, but never having exposure to it, perhaps it has benefits I'm not accustomed to. Overall, I think this is easier than the default keyboard and am really looking forward to further enhancements!

Brilliant
by sebs
The concept is clever, and the implementation does it justice. This would make a great plug-in for the iPhone OS.

GREAT TOOL, BUT...
by Aggie0668
I wish it could be applied to text messaging too.

I cannot believe it is not 5*
by Ramana ps
Definitely one of the best applications that the app store has to offer. Superb concept.....brilliant implementation If I had used the shapewriter for writng this review.......i would have been long done by now

This is how text entry should work
by RaleighDoug
See my review...

My favorite ap
by devanyl7
I'm amazed at how well this works even when I'm only haphazardly guessing at where the letters are -- it's like it reads my mind! Load time increased with the last update, but I'm hoping that will be fixed soon.

I like the idea
by LaurenBeth
Butbutbut you need to make this for texting, I'm sure me and others will get a lot more use out of it that way.

Excellent App. with a few suggestions.
by Flipped
Great app!!! It's a new way of inputting words & I love it. It has become my default list app. Super easy. As of version 1.0.2Things I'd love to see (but not sure if possible):1. when dragging your finger over the keyboard the letters should pop up above your finger (like in apple's mail app) so you know which letter you're resting on.2. Having the keyboard work when tilted on it's side (like apple's safari)2. Folders for notes. Then you can drag the various notes into a folder.

Omg, I can't believe everybody likes it!
by TwirlerChick
This is a downgrade of notes.

Awesome
by alkim76
If only this were natively in the Mail app...

I wish this were the default text entry method
by JemDaddyO
Wow, I love this note entry method. I have found myself to be much faster than with the standard keyboard. It gets my words correct 80% of the time and they are there in the available alternates another 15% of the time. Very few words have I had to "add" to the list. The bug where it "forgets" your added words has been fixed. I'm just bumming every time I use other applications with text entry where I have to resort to the standard Apple way.

A true innovation
by yaemes
Once you get past the ugly keyboard and the abundant crashes and even the slow loading time, actually the idea is quite genious. It works so much better than I expected. But in it's current crashy state, it's useless. It crashes when I try to do anything.

Cool program BUT...
by Colorado411
This is a very novel and entertaining way of writing, and the email feature is useful. However, this system of writing is only faster, as described by other posts, for those who use only one finger to type. Those who use two finger typing (i.e. thumbs) won't see much benefit from this program. See for yourself by typing a sentence and timing the two methods. There is also limited application of the software (notes and email, no texting). My $.02

Interesting idea
by DavPhone
Well, I thought this was designed as a notes application to use when you want to QUICKLY just write down something. BUT the application launches for SO LONG TIME, it is absolutely useless to me.

Faster than writing?
by emmoh3
I thought the lack of handwriting recognition was a shortcoming of the Iphone, but this is better than handwriting recognition. For instance, you can write the word "apple" with three strokes. A-freaking-mazing.

Awesome program
by Armada8800
For writing notes and sending quick e-mails this program is great. It's much faster than using the normal keypad.

Very nice
by jose_2764
Great when you have to type with one hand, but I can type much faster on the on-screen keyboard. The idea itself is genious though :)

Ugh
by (-_-)zzZ
It works like it should but doesn't do much and is hard to work it

Coolest. Thing. Ever.

Needs work, but amazing technology
by DellFoster
I updated and now it keeps crashing. The premise behind this keyboard would save so much time. Apple,if you're listening, add this keyboard functionality to the iPhone's interface.

Best Keyboard for a Touch Screen!!!
by Kolta
Mr. Steve Jobs, please look into this new technology. It is the next most unique touch screen keyboard experience that may in SOME ways rival the current iPhone keyboard. Could this be in the next Apple product??? It's a new prespective on predictive keying that may help relieve MANY frustrated text message addicts who own an iPhone.

Sweetness!
by c4chaos
This is an awesome app! This should be an input option on the iPhone smart keyboard in future updates, along with Copy and Paste!

OMG!!!
by XxThePersuaderxX
This app is awesome, and FREE! If only it were implemented into safari and mail, but the developer can't do anything about that.

Mr.
by nizcolas
Wow. Apple, please licensce this tech!!!

Lots of potential, but...
by daniel4510
...by the time a note pad and keyboard finally appears, I could have finished a note in Notepad just as quickly or more so. :)

Amazing
by Mehrdad givehchi
I wish we could replace apple's default keyboard with this

this is cool but...
by ipodtouchuser94
I wish when u man a note, u can get a notification.

Awesome application!!
by TheCypher
Apple should really license this technology. Increases typing speed by at least 4 times if not more. Truly amazing. Try it to believe it! I wish it worked with SMS. That would have been the icing on the cake. I hope they add that capability it in at some point.

Brilliant!!!
by papichulito
Amazing appllication - much faster and more intuitive than regular "tapping" method of introducing text. I love that you can write a message and then send it via email. AND IT'S FREE!!!

Amazing
by HomeCraft
This truly an amazing app. I can't believe how effective it really is. And it free. WOW. Food for thought: how bout adding highlighters.

Great app!
by Brutus IV
I never write reviews , but this app is truly amazing.

Perfect and easy!!
by anakin908
This makes it so easy to write everything!!!! If this were on the regular iPhone keyboard, it would be amazing!!!!

Second Review
by Leomeo17
When I first wrote a review I states that I loved this app so much! I do like it much better than the notes, but when the app updated I didn't expect it to delete all of the notes I had in there. It would have been nice to say before I put all of my notes in it.

AWESOME!!!
by kingnt66
I usually too lazy to write a review, but this is just purely awesome!! So easy to use and it's very accurate. Can't believe this is free!!

Extremely intuitive, natural, and brilliant!
by EvIoNeOn
Apple! Jump on this! This is seriously the most effective way to type on a touch screen I have ever seen! Not only is it easy and fast, but it is creepily accurate when predicting words. I would pay or this without a doubt if you could use it for SMS.

really cool
by Seattle guy
I like that it interfaces with the email app.

Awesome
by Ricardo J Parada
This is great. I wish the system keyboard had this mode of operation. I like it very much. I wish I could switch between different languages though (English and Spanish).

Soooooo good
by shycamel
You have to try this amazing program!!!

Amazing!!
by Monk Edsel
Making brilliant use of the touchscreen, this is most clever way to enter text I have ever seen! At first I thought this was something like Grafitti on Palm devices, but this is nothing like it, and is in fact much better! Just slide your finger from key to key to spell out the word you want, it's that simple and terribly effective! I agree that Apple should license this, I'd love to see the option to input type this way implemented system wide!

Just got it and was pretty blown away.
by Maloy
It makes writing a breeze.

Novel idea, and great execution
by gss00
I'm pretty good at the two thumb approach to typing, and with the intelligent keyboard backing up my errors I can type quickly. But if you are a "one finger" typist this may be an interesting alternative. I was amazed at how well it did, and I could almost match my speed/error rate using this approach as with the conventional one. It makes the old Palm Graffiti approach of forming letter by letter seem primitive and quaint. If you know the QWERTY keyboard layout there shouldn't be much of a problem with your fingers "blocking" the keys as some have complained. Definitely worth downloading and trying.

Nice!
by STiVo
Works surprisingly well. It would be nice if Apple allowed developers to create system-wide input methods and keyboards because this method could be the answer to Apple's mistake prone keyboard.

An intensely amazing idea
by Sophaloph16
This brings "intuitive" typing to the iPhone. Amazing.

Awesome
by Imran,va
Love this application.

Needs more integration with other apps
by snakeshot
If you could respond to incoming email, do chats, etc. this would be a great piece of software. This incarnation lacks wide usability.

incredible app
by bot trot
WOW! seriously, I can't think of a better way to enter text on the phone that doesn't make it blatantly obvious that you are pecking away at a small little virtual keyboard. Excellent for longer words and more descriptive emails. some areas for improvement-> 1. I wish that I had the option to use this program within SMS and email, as opposed to closing mail, opening writingpad and then writing the email, should be in the reply options in every email. 2. I honestly think thats it! l would pay $20 for this if it had the option for all text input on the iPhone. seriously, download it, play around, get used to its functions, Apple would be foolish not to work with these developers and integrate this app throughout the entire iPhone platform!

One good App!!!
by Takenhostile
This just shows the endless possibilities iPhone can accomplish. Wow!!

Awesome
by Jswi95
Apple should totally make this an option for keyboards in the next version of the touch, no joke.

No texting...
by Ice Wrapper
Really cool app. This works amazingly well and is easy to use. My only complaint is that you can't text your messages. 4 stars

Awesome app!!!
by wijgalt
Apple needs to learn from this app. Great job

Very Cool
by Harshad
This app is great... But if you're a person who doesn't find themself using the Notes app much, you're not going to use this much... Still a great app though!

Love it!
by dolelo
I have to admit, I was surprised at how accurate it is (for me)....haven't had any problems. Landscape mode would be awesome!

Awesome!
by Kingjimmy9
Apple should for sure implement this technology. It's so easy. They just need to add the magnifying glass for editing and the ability to move around. Also, the delete needs to work better. And how about conjunctions like "what's"

Amazingly Effective
by Phatphil
I am very surprised at how accurate and speedy WritingPad is. This is a must-have app for any iPhone user. The only addition I could ask for is the ability to use it in all apps, such as when texting or replying to an email. This is my favorite app from the App Store up to this point.

A liitle more tweaking needed, but good
by Texas Doc
No question, it works. They need to add support for text messaging.

Revolutionary technology?
by dwp = dw cos theta
Didn't Palm do this years before the iphone even existed? Still, this could be useful in addition to the tap keyboard.

Pretty cool app
by listentosarah
I really like this app, but I would like it better if I could send the notes I wrote via text message.

This is amazing
by Freddy_ace
I wish the iPhone had an option of using this for everything

iPhone should have this by default
by alphagrl
I love the way this app works! Now with the bigger keyboard it's even better. I'm sad that I have to use the single typing mode to write this review. iPhone should definitely incorporate this into their interface and give the option to use this way of typing. Love it!

Really works!
by Cadavg
I am very comfortable typing on the iPhone's keyboard and have gotten pretty quick so I didn't think that this app would be extremely useful but I installed itanyway and I have to say that I am very impressed. The methodology is very intuitive and those is a great replacement to the built-in notes app.

Lost Notes
by Treh
I am getting used to writing notes this way. It takes a little getting used to but it works pretty well. I was bummed with the last update because it did not save my notes. They've gotta change this with next update!

Update
by farkette
Great updates...except I lost all my note when it installed.

Great!
by parisblues
This is a wonderful app. I use it more often than notes. You definitly need to buy this.

Great app!
by tracing
Very nice! Easier for me than typing on the iPhone. Would like to see this integrated so I could use it for text messaging and other apps. Thanks!

Great Idea!
by Abby99
Very innovative! Well designed and pretty cool. A few suggestions: 1. Try to fix long delay's 2. Be able to flip keyboard horizontally 3. Make "space bar" bigger Thanks. This program is a great download.

One of the best apps
by j paw
Just typing at this keyboard compared with the Notes keyboard is much better. Making words by dragging your finger across letters gets faster for me every minute I use it. I can see how someone with fatter fingers might have a harder time at first using this but I believe that the effort to master this is worth the time. It isn't perfect yet but I would be willing to pay a good price for it to kept this developer working on it. I think Apple should hire this developer and replace their Notes app with this one!

000
by Fogmode
I'm not impressed. Since I can't see through my finger, I couldn't tell if I stopped on the right letter. I could not find an apostrophe ' either. I'm going to remove the app from my G3.

Great idea, but...
by Enoch Soames
It doesn't work for me. My fingers are apparently too large, or too fat, and it's impossible to see where my finger is going from letter to letter. After two days of frustration, I gave up. But hey - it's free. Don't cost nothin' to give it a shot. Judging from the reviews, it works for most people.

Very nice
by Blanka087
I have never seen an app like this befor, it is very easy to enter text and it very fast, love it

Absolutely Amazing! I wish the iphone keyboard worked this way
by LargeNoggin
I have downloaded quite a few apps and this is the first one I have felt compelled to review. It works amazingly well. So well, in fact, I wish the apple Iphone keyboard worked this way by default.I am using this to compose my Emails and sending them from the app itself. Outstanding!

Revolutionary!!
by kaden22
Stretch your universe of how you take notes and give this amazing program a try! I was looking for a note taking program that was more robust than the native notes porgram that comes with the ipod touch. I have a Windows pda and got pretty adept at using handwriting recognition if I quickly wanted to jot something down. Of course, since the ipod touch does not have a microphone, the voice note programs in the app store were a non-starter for me. And handwriting recognition is also a non-starter without a stylus :-) . The thought of typing notes on the virtual keyboard sounded like torture to me. But this shapewriter program -- now that's a great way to enter text if your device doesn't have a microphone or stylus (like the ipod touch!)For the creativity of this program alone, it deserves 5 stars. I fully agree with all those that have urged Apple to use this as the native notes program on iphone/ipod touch. I was amazed at the ability of this program to understand the words I was "shapewriting." It seems that the human brain is hardwired to remember shapes more easily than individual letters. This human capability is what spurred the invention of this program. I think it's also very cool that a special keyboard for shapewriting (the atomik) is included with the download. And on top of it all, this program is free!!! This program has been in development for at least 4 years. I think it's great that the developers submitted a version of this program for iphone/ipod touch that was launched in the App Store. That said, it seems that the 1.0 version of this program had a habit of crashing. I had a devil of a time writing a note about my book club selections using the program. I had to restart numerous times, but finally succeeded. From what I understand, this has been corrected in the 1.0.1 version (along with the name change). With what appears to be a very successful launch for the iphone/ipod touch platform, my guess is that the developers will work on an even more robust version that will probably end up being a paid app. This is what I would like to see in a future upgrade of this wonderful program:- the ability to change the colors of background/text;- the ability to sync with calendars, e-mail, phone numbers (be they retained in Outlook or iCalendar programs);- the abiity to use in portrait or landscape modes;- the ability to format text;- the ability to sort notes by date taken or alphabetically (ascending or descending) or by priority;- maybe even the ability to attach a thumbnail of a doodle or photo! Many kudos go to the creator of this program, Dr. Shumin Zhai who, IMHO, is a genius! He took a seemingly mundane function (note taking) and came up with a completely unique way to do it. I can't wait to see how this program develops. BTW, if the developers do submit a paid version of this app, I hope they keep a free version of this program so that people will continue to give it a try. Thank you for all your hard work!!

kinda cool!
by Iceman412
nicely done, shapewriter!

Should be integrated in all typing apps
by filmicnyc
This rocks. Accurate and learns words easily. I type fast on the iPhone but this is even faster! Apple should license this for the native keyboard.

Great, but missing one thing
by amartini51
This is cool -- very fast and easy way to enter text. I can type much faster with this that the basic keyboard. One thing I felt it really needed though was the ability to edit text that I've already typed -- if I want to change a word, I have to delete all the way back to it which is a little annoying.

Could be better
by Shakespere
I wish my fat thumbs were clear so I could see what I'm doing. Would be great if i could rotate screen horizontal to have a larger keyboard.

Waste of time
by Notetaker
Tracing letter with your finger will make it guess a wrong word every other time. Typing the same word letter by letter will actually take less time. Besides, it is not integrated with e-mail or typing in any other app, so you'd better get proficient at typing and forget this app.

This is cool!
by Jrai
I like this thing it's pretty cool I wish we could use this to type everything on our iPods or ipjone

Great app but a bit scetchy
by Boi Chillz
It's not very smooth. But it's an ok app just needs a few tweaks to make it run smoother.

Sweet!
by DevonJDennis
This app is sweet! Being free is awesome! Apple should set it up so the iPhone can use this tecnology for everything tyepable! Sweetness!

Used it, removed it
by MacHarbor Guy
With the amount of time and effort put into the whole touch interface of WritingPad, you would THINK that the developers would have at least put in a widescreen keyboard. Not a single notepad app on the AppStore, nor Apple's own notepad app, has the widescreen keyboard. I would pay $10 or even $20 for a widescreen-keyboard in a notepad app. Sure this is a free program, but the touch interface on the thin-screen keyboard is about as useful as heart-medication on a hang-nail.

Pretty good
by dardenlinux
Great idea, and, unlike some great ideas, it actually works! I gave it just 4 stars because there is no shift key making it VERY hard to add a capitalized name to the word library. I agree that Apple should buy this or work with these people to make this a typing option in the iPhone/iPod touch. Just put a SHIFT key in!

This program is rated S.H.*.T
by ATateNJ
This is the second worst app I have used since the download fever on these not so great apps started. Why don't you spend a little more time and just make a grafitti knock off instead of this asanine nonsense!

Awesome!!!
by slongoria
Too bad I couldn't use it to write this review...

The best note app for iPhone!
by Michael DM
This is probably the best free app. It's so much easier to write with than Apples Note application. Great job!

Wow! So killer.
by Bootsybus
Must have.

It should be a core option
by dancelikeithurts
This is an excellent assistant to typing without taking away the option of using the keyboard. The best compliment I can give this app is to suggest that the developer work with Apple to see if WritingPad can become an option in Settings to use whenever ANY app brings up a keyboard.

exciting
by heye
the author must be a genius to invent this never imagine to input words in this way

GDer
by OPAMF
If we could only type like this all the time. This needs to be a standard Apple application. Ridiculuosly awesome!!

Absolutely Amazing
by aamcclain
This app is better than the actual notepad that Apple provides for the iPhone. It's faster and easier. It completely shocks me that Apple didn't actually come up with it first. They should be jealous... :D

This should be built into iPhone operating system.
by rdkaz
Very innovative. Hard to believe it works as well as it does, and it gets about 90% of the words right the first time and almost always has the alternative shown, too. Easy to get used to. I wish this were built into the iPhone to use with all applications.

Makes you want to donate it's that good
by architek1
I am pleasantly surprised at the accuracy that this application displays. Quite unbelievable. As many others suggested this should replace notepad and possibly be a default entry system for the iPhone. It's a How come Apple didn't think of this kinda app. Very nice!

Excellent Thinking
by Darshan Shah
Woooooo!!!! This app changed the style of editing. This is excellent. U cant get a better free app than this. This is highly accurate and fast.

Just wish it worked on this reveiw

Well done.

Am really impressed. Very creative app.

by sammanspalding
I like "hamsters4fun"'s review "my name is shaun, it keeps changing it to Satan" 5 stars JUST for that

An App that makes me want this feature everywhere
by rexhammock
It's amazing how dragging instead of tapping makes typing an easier function. This is like the first time you had the experience of "flicking" an iPhone page with your finger -- you do it once and then you say to yourself, "wow, every thing you type using an iPhone should have this dragging feature."

okay...
by F4Uforever
I don't know why someone would put a second notepad on their iPhone or iPod Touch. Just use the one Apple provided.

Amazing
by Baileya1c
Pretty much the most intuative, well designed and creative app I've seen so far. It makes the regular iPhone keybord seem, well just regular and boring. Well done dev's. I wonder if Apple wished they had come up with it first?

Man Hands
by Traj
If this was used with a stylus, I would say it would work great. But with my fat fingers it's just no good. I can't see the keyboard for the fingers. I did get some laughs at some of the suggested words though.

Very Impressive
by Ken the Judge
I didn't expect this free ap to be much of anything, but it is rather good. It is the next best thing to come along since predictive text input. I agree with the other reviewers that this technique should be available in all the iPhone input keyboards.

Very good!!
by tvilot
I wish I could write my review using it! Well, when copy and past arrive, this will be a very nice alternative way of writing.

Apple, please buy it already!
by Codacious
This could be incorporated with almost no changes to the regular UI. If the iPhone were open source, this would probably become the de facto input method. It's great. One bonus is that, if you like to send the same message in multiple emails, it saves the message as a "note" and you can hit the "email" button on it as many times as you want.

Fantastic app

I love it apple should make this the primary typing it is way easier and the auto correct is more reliable. I also love the keyboard.

Amazing!
by cmelbye
Awesome and innovative way of input. Apple needs to contact these guys about the technology they're using, I'd love to see it in the UI in the future. I'm using this for all note taking on my phone now. Seriously install this and try it before the developer learns that he should be charging a buck for this ;-P

Awesome
by oracle_ab
I'd love to see Apple purchase and incorporate this tech. Does what it says and does it well!

Should be an Apple option for iphone 2.02
by bigbenjamin
Excellent. It works as advertised. Wish it could be used as an option in every app.

Terrible and useless
by Hamsters4Fun
Terrible program! It didn't recognize any words, everytime I tried typing my name Shaun it changing it to Satan. Plus it kept restarting my phone. My car also stopped running suddenly losing all power while I was on the freeway. This program may me the cause. This program isn't even worth free.

Amazing
by leefa61
This is such an amazing app. Apple needs to apply this to the rest of phone. The only reason I did not give it a full five stars because it's not useful beyond note taking and email. But other than that I love it!!!

Very good concept & execution. This makes it much easier to write/type on the iPhone.
by brennaman
This app takes good advantage of the iPhone touchscreen. I've found that I can write words much faster than when I use the keyboard. It gives pretty accurate results, and on the occasions where my fingers strayed too much from a direct line, its suggested words usually contained the word I'd been intending to write. It also deals well with the issues of capitalization and punctuation. Overall, this is a very good app, and I appreciate being able to e-mail the notes so I can get them onto my computer.

WOW !
by datafesster
This app is truly amazing. Try it, you'll love it !

Great input method--wish it could be the default!
by meflyin
This method of entry is great! It takes just a little bit to get used to it, but once you have it's much faster than regular key-by-key typing. I wish we could set this as the default input method for all apps (especially email!).

Smart and innovative
by kringsta
But....honestly for me, it'll be faster if I typed out the words..I thought I was able to draw each letter out to type, but I was wrong. A smart app tho!

Apple needs to buy them out
by Homerjunior
It works surprisingly well. Would make an excellent addition to the native iPhone ui.

best app I've installed so far
by e-shy
this is so easy, works very well and, for some unknown reason, it's free. as I'm writing this review I wish I could use their keyboard as my default one. maybe the guys at apple will buy it and add it to the I'd (that's a good reason to make it free)

iPhone junkie
by Chubaccu
This program is so fun it's hard to put down. Make sure that you know the keyboard to really get the most out of this cool app.

This Program Rocks!
by Tech Guy 5x
It only takes a little practice to get good at using this program. I'll be using it all of the time. You can type with only one finger and still be pretty fast. It pays to have the keyboard layout memorized as sometimes your finger will be hiding the next letter you are hunting for.Absolutely fabulous program! I am surprised it is free.I won't be using the built in Notes program anymore. To the developer- it might be nice if there were a landscape mode so the keys could be bigger. You're probably already on it, but if I were you, I would make an "added features", paid-for version.

Fantastic App
by REMAXWill
I think you have done an excellent job with this one. One suggestion...add the ability to text the note. That would be the ultimate.

Addictive
by Us4U2C
I've been finding excuses to use it because I can't get over it! Everyone I show is impressed and finds it easy to use. Making random shapes to see the word you make is fun too ;-) I hope this eventually crosses over for use in all my applications.

Interesting and Fun App...
by jrear
This is a fun app to use - Unique and innovative way to type words. I feel the interface could be polished up a little more, but that's being too picky. I would also like to see alternative ways of saving the text, whether it be in note form within the app, emailing the note as a text document, or sending it to a blog. Keep up the great work. These types of apps excelerate the innovative iPhone experience.

Works well
by Lps41
Works well enough to use but it's not very fast to type with

Awesome!!
by Maze2402
I use my regular notepad all the time. So when I came across this I decided to give it a try. This thing is amazing. I had to get use to it a little but I can write a lot faster and more intuitively!! This thing is great, 5 stars and two thumbs up for bring FREE!

wow!
by ziminvades
this just might replace my old note pad

Big time saver
by bembino
Just wish it worked for more than just email and notes.

It's surprisingly intuitive!
by mkoper
i wasn't expecting much from this app, but i really quite like it. It makes me think in words rather than letters, and at the least that's a fascinating exercise. The keyboard works as advertised, and it's pretty innovative.

More fun than useful
by cantina
I find it amazing WritingPad’s trace-through-the-letters approach works at all, but so far it's been more fun than useful. I don't know that it's suitable for taking live notes and you can’t use it outside of the built-in notes app, but being able to e-mail the note is a nice touch. With practice I could fly along if I wasn't overly concerned about errors. But the keyboard is cramped, so my finger sometimes hid the letters and short words like "to" required more precision (though adding a small hook at the end of a trace helped). Certain common words were inordinately difficult and it's easy to lose your place in long repetitive words. A stylus might address these issues if the iPhone had one.The Atomik keyboard is larger and seems more accurate, but it's a pain to learn another non-alphabetical layout.Still, I marveled the first time I tried a word like "serendipity" and it was able to make sense of the scribble. I haven't had problems with it remembering my saved words across a restart, either. A few suggestions:1. Make the keyboard spacing wider and offer a landscape option.2. Add a function where it learns which word you likely mean after the second or third time.3. Offer custom scribbles, for example, your name or signature could be a big double loop.4. Allow you to suppress some words, e.g., it consistently picked "im" instead of "I'm" and generally had trouble with contractions. It also always made the typed letter "i" a new word and capitalized, which is not desirable in the middle of a word.

Great app, needs some work
by jiesa
I really love this app, I just wish it was the standard writing system for the iPhone :) But I noticed that it crashes if you try to use it when you have a large podcast open at the same time (playing or not). I didn't try it with a smaller music file open, but it was embarassing when I tried to show it off to my friend at work, but it kept crashing because of the podcast I had paused at the same time. It worked when the podcast finished playing. Keep up the good work!!

Stupid!
by Texaslonghornfreak231
Stupid! I thought u drew the letter and it came up. Soooooo stupid. It's harder to work than the original keyboard

Worth more than free!!!
by vgpd
This is a great app. It's ashame that it's only real use is in composing email and notes. If the standard iPhone keyboard used the same entry method, it may be "the perfect phone". I'm pretty impressed with how accurate it is and the complexity of words it picks up. Definitely, download worthy.

Stunning!
by AtomicMrDNA
I love this app! I use it to jot down notes and it's much faster than manually "clicking" each letter of each word (even with the auto complete). I also love the look of the type and the overall design! Great app!

Crash
by ForFree
I was actually enjoying this tool until it crashed before I could press done. All my notes were erased. I thought it was a fluke, but the next 3 tries gave the same results. Great idea, but needs some work.

Works surprisingly well
by inanimate1
It's a great concept and it actually works suprisingly well. The dictionary is thorough and it actually enables you to 'type' words super fast. It has pretty much replaced the default Notes app for me

It just works!
by teamofemus
It really does. I'm perfectly satisfied - I just wish it would have integration with the iPhone's Mail, Notes, Safari, SMS, etc. Keep it up, guys!

HELP for fat fingered people
by 3radart
Very cool app, that i think would be more useful (functional) if the keyboard could be a little higher on the screen and it had a pointer like the No.2 app uses. I hope the developers do this for 2.0

This is amazing how it knows everything, no matter how bad ur line is it still knows what u mean! Otis amazing! And plus, if u find it hard to type on the iPhone, then u can just do of that way, and then email it!! I think it is one of the best apps made!!

OMG! This is fracking cool!
by ZenJim
Works great. Love it.

Outstanding
by Doctor JB
An absolulety outstanding application...money very well spent...has cut the time it takes to write email for example by nearly 75% over finger typing...buy it!

Love it!
by Elsie Cielo
I love this app. It works so well and especially when I need to make notes on the run. I wish I could replace the iPhone keyboard with this one!

this is pretty cool
by todesto
for a free app, this is very cool. it is hard to see where your finger is over, but who cares? it's FREE!

Great app!
by Jgiavot
Easy to use and intelligent interface.

Nice
by Aline g
Very awesome app! I wish I could use it to type everything on my iphone. I find I have less errors when I type (or rather draw) with it.

Ok
by SamHudson
It's slow and a little hard, but it's fun and I like showing it off

Worth a try, but no solution
by Thickfingers
Biggest problem is that your finger covers up the letters making it hard to find the letter you really want to "stroke" over and in some words you have to go in a straight line over letters you want to be in the word and they will just be ignored. Would work better with a stylus, but those are so 90s...

This works GREAT!
by willwen
This application works really good! I tried some unusal words and it picked them right up.

Really cool
by GBoss88
It takes some getting used to but it is really cool

Only missing SMS compatibility
by kizmet's adjutant
If you could use writingpad for things other than notes and email (like SMS, or writing this review) it would be one of the most useful apps on my iPhone!

nice app and fun as well
by iHung
Apple should make this keyboard as an optioN!

Perfect
by UberGator
Easy and intuitive. Picked it up right away. Apple, PLEASE include this in the next update as an alternative keyboard. Forget please, do it NOW!

Awesome typing program
by Rob E.H.
This is an awesome app for typing and shows the power of shapetyping, so maybe apple will implement it as an input type, also it allows you to email your notes, so you can use it to compose emails, although you can't reply to emails using this program. Still it is really awesome and free so check it out

Fun and promising new input method but app crashes every time
by JayGeeJay
To me fair, since upgrading to the 2.0 OS, lots of apps crash on my iphone. And even before 2.0 debuted, Safari crashed constantly. All of which is to say the app-crashing recently reported in reviews on lots of different programs could be due to Apple's OS and not (or not just) the apps in question. As an aside, I've never (yet) had the iPhone's email program crash on me. That said, before I could get familiar and test out this exciting new input methos, ScriptWriter became utterly useless on my phone, constantly crashing and erasing my progress--even text I've saved beforehand. (I did 'hard reboot' my phone after installing the new software, as I've seen recommended in these fora to reduce crashing, but apparently that didn't fix the issue) I do hope kinks get ironed out, as I would love to have a chance to really try out this intriguing software.

Brilliant
by adamlevy
Needs bigger letters though

Revolutionizing TouchScreen Typing

Amazing! Picked it up right away... Apple should make this an optional input method in a future update.

I want all the keyboard popups to work like this.

great program

fun and functional!

Fun and challenging way to enter information
by Jbitson
It took me a while to get the accuracy up to an acceptable level but it was fun! I can't say at this point entering words by dragging you finger is faster that using the tap method, but I can see how with practice it could be more efficient. Your finger hides the letter you are entering and there is no display like there is using the iPhone keyboard. I believe if you could see the letter as you are dragging your finger it would be more user friendly.

fantastic
by mkultra
this is one fabulous little app. this should be incorporated into the iPhone as a native feature.

Crashes almost every time
by Jala27
I love the keyboard and this method of composing notes and messages. However, I attempted three times today to write a note and everytime, it crashed and came up as "Empty Note - December 31, 1969." I am not sure if anyone else is having this problem but I would like it addressed soon. Thanks.

flat amazing
by Avle
I agree with other reviews. I want this to replace all my keyboards

Love it!
by aabejon
I just wish this was available for other apps on iPhone, such as text & AIM. It's awesome!

Totaly awesome
by Guy in the dark
Apple should make this keyboard one that u can turn on like the other language keyboards I can really see this turning the tide in the touch screen vs. Plastic keyboard debate

Great tech apple must buy
by dorianworkman
I agree with another reviewer, this is amazing technology, but the UI and limited scope of use let it down. Apple needs to incorporate this system wide asap!!! Are you listening someone at Apple? :)

Great app!
by m00shie
Apple should make this part of the iphone os for all keyboard functions.

Get this app!
by brendanobri3n
Easy to use and very useful.

Genuinely amazing
by Hussdelrio
I wish I were typing this on writingpad right now. Apple should buy and implement this technology!

I love this software!!!
by AppChallenged
After only five minutes using this application, I can compose notes & emails at least 3x faster than the 2-finger approach. With very little practice, this approach to writing will get even faster. It is a very smart program and leaves room for being less than perfect, technique-wise. The fact that you can compose without having to constantly tap the space bar is a great feature.

Better Than Notes
by htrejo
Much has already been said. It took me a little bit of time to get used to it, but now that I am, I wished this was an optional way of writing system wide.

A next app
by lamrin
It's amazing....A feature that should become a part of the regular Apple notes app.

Excellent technology, poorly implemented
by Slantsixx
After reading about how the ShapeWriter technology works, I was skeptical about its performance. Much to my amazement, it works with extreme accuracy! The only downsides are its limited use and graphically unimpressive interface. You can only use it to store notes and send email. The technology works, but can be difficult with large fingers.

Thinking Out Side The Box.
by Fever Pitch
Shapewriter, is a good and innovative idea that's getting better and better with each iteration. Unlike hand writing recognition apps, this app allows you to draw the entire word using the iPhone's key pad as a guide. If it's not the word that you intended to input, Shapewriter presents you with possible matches on an easy to read word bar.I find myself quickly getting the hang of this and i must say, that alone with typing on the iPhone, it really can increase the speed and accuracy of your input.I'm thinking maybe apple should buy this app from Mrs. Wang, to use as an alternative to the ordinary keyboard input. Thanks Mrs. Wang, you have shown me; and given me something different and new.... and fun!

Pretty Good - & 2 suggestions
by GeneonMAC
Pretty good app.Two things that would make it significantly better.1. Ability to set as default entry keyboard2. Ability to choose to send either an email OR a text message.

Wow
by Adam Michaels
Norman Wang, you are going to make a boatload of money. This is an amazing app. This technology should be incorporated system-wide

quits repeatedly
by jprov
Love the program - when it works. The app quits repeatedly and, despite numerous saves while working, the note will store as 'empty note' (the title) dated Dec 31, 1969 and there will be no text saved. Think it relates to the backspace function when it's tapped a number of times..at any rate, it's a frustration to lose work, but when it works, it's great. Just not tempted to write anything of length. Hope to see a fix!

Wow
by Pastapuck
This app blew me away. Incredible idea.

I wish this could replace the Apple keyboard!
by bellaandedward
Wow, I love this app! It's so easy to write with and it's very accurate! Now I just wish we could have the option of using this instead of the default keyboard...

Awsome
by Jdusoccer12
This is a really cool way to type I wish I could use it in all my applications!!

Not more efficient
by mogosh
This app's shapewriting involves tracing your finger along each letter in a word as found on a standard keyboard, not any quicker than thumb typing or even pecking. It's hard to see the letters as you go along and you spend a lot of time replacing words and correcting. I sure Apple doesn't replace the built-in keyboard with this.

Note Pad is Better
by NewYawk
Your finger gets in the way of typing. The keys are as tiny as a blackberry's. I'm glad I didn't pay for it because it would have been a waste, as Apple's keypad is better.

Best application in the store!
by Steve Krug
This is the only app that I've seen posted so far that is truly amazing. It's a *far* more efficient (and *far, far* more fun) way to enter text on the iPhone than the standard keyboard. As several people have already suggested here, Apple should (for once) drop its "if we didn't invent it, it's not a work of genius" attitude and aquire this company and make it a keyboard option in the next iPhone software update.

Very Cool
by Dr Mudius
This works suprisingly well for long words, and you don't have to be to accurate which is cool. Apple should definetly adopt this as a different option to help sway people from there real keyboard because I would like to use this for other things like SMS I would like them to make the keyboard more like the native iPhone keyboard and the numbers option the same I would also like to see the keyboard go into landscape mode Besides that this writing style has the potential to be faster then the regular keyboard if you know how to type and don't need to see the whole keyboard the whole to (because your finger covers it)

Bad execution...
by danislinus
This is a really cool idea but there are several problems. First off, it's really buggy. I lost a note and when I reopened it was there but did some weird funky scrolling of the time. Luckily, I was able to email it to myself and the data was indeed there. Also, it's horribly inaccurate especially with shorter words. I found myself having to try 3-4 times with a lot of the words. When I would scroll through the alternates, the word I was looking for wouldn't be there when you think it would be. It almost requires 100% accuracy by the user when the keyboard should compensate due to the fact the the user's finger gets in the way of being able to see. It's great concept but needs to be improved upon greatly for me to use it daily. It's gotten great reviews but being early I'd imagine that people like the concept but haven't really used it that much.

Nice, Maybe better than the original type pad !
by amuenp
Great Idea ShapeWriter Inc. !!! I will be keeping an eye on your apps. I would love to see the option to turn the Touch/iphone to the side with a larger keyboard... thanks guys

Innovative idea
by Miramba
It's great to see different ideas. It takes quite a bit of getting used to when I first used it. Unfortunately, I still type faster on the virtual keyboard, so this app became less useful. I think a handwriting recognition app would be much more useful.

Great APP, but needs more uses
by rygrove
If this keyboard could be used with SMS it would be perfect!

Great idea, still needs work
by Mastifman
The idea was great but even when I taught it words, it would get them wrong when I did it again. You need to be very precise to make it work correctly. I can write faster when I hunt and peck characters than when I try to create precise patterns. It is a great idea though.

Awesome
by Kelmk
Works great but the word suggestions dissapear so fast I don't have a chance to click on them. I don't think it is ant faster to type on that the standard keyboard but it is fun.

Forget
by Ouch
Forget this one! Apple touch screen works better.

Love it ...what about an automatic space after words
by My1stMac1984
I was skeptical when I tried it on my iphone but instantly saw the advantage to someone with arthritis. Much easier on the fingers. Thanks for a unique idea. One thing I would like is a space after words as an automatic option. Yes, I know about periods and commas, but mostly there are spaces. If it were an option I would like that.

Love it
by drholliday
I wish it could be integrated to be used in every iPhone program...it's so fast and simple!!! Genius.

Awsome
by Hieulk
I'm writing this review and wishing that I can do it via ShapeWriter.

Excellent input method, try it for more than five minutes before judging
by DLRider
Excellent excellent excellent alternative input method. I was really fast with Palm's Graffiti over the years, and can go pretty fast on the iPhone's keyboard with a single finger, but this application combines the iPhone's soft keyboard with graffiti like input motions to come up with what could be the best of both. If you're a two handed iPhone keyboarder, this may not be for you, but for the rest of us, with larger fingers, who are using the one finger typing method anyways, this application lets you just slide your finger across the keyboard to the keys used to spell the word you're typing without lifting the finger off the keyboard. Sliding is faster than press-lift-press for me, and the program's word recognition is just about as good as the iPhones, and a little easier to use. Alternate spellings for your words are on a scroll bar.Notes can be saved ala the notes application, or you can hit the email icon and an email is opened with your text pasted in. Add in SMS and a way to paste to a web page, and this could be the killer input application for the iPhone.I'm not going to blame the app for the occasional crash others are experiencing; too many apps I've gotten from the iPhone have crashed, suggesting it's the phone, not the apps.If you're going to try this, then give it a real try. Don't spend five minutes with it and give up. You didn't learn to type or to use Graffiti in just a few minutes, so it may take a few days to get used to this. And who could argue with the price?!?!? Apple, you should consider buying these guys off and using their code in the base firmware for all inputs, as an option at least. Kudos to ShapeWriter for an awesome idea.

Surprisingly good!!
by Eyesurg
Faster than typing for most words, but some problems with common words such as much and like. I'm sure it will improve with updates, and you can't beat the price.

Download now! It's great!

Awesome to use. Takes getting used to but it's so much fun and you can write really fast!

Wow!!!
by Jime78
Really cool app that needs to be native in the iPhone OS as an option for any text entry.

Great but....
by Patrick R
Software works well but I was expecting something like Palm's grafitti alphabet. Probably not something I'd use very often.

New version fixes crash problem! This is a FANTASTIC app!
by zzzzliu
This is an app that is so awesome, that Apple should integrate it into the iPHone software as an alternate input method for text entry! It is especially great at recognizing longer words - some words ("they" was one I ran into) appear to have a trace that's too close to other words, so it gets it wrong most of the time (and might not even show up in the alternate word list) - so I'd guess that the thing they need to work on next is adjusting the word guess by language frequency. Nonetheless, for silent note-taking, this app is worth trying out (especially for the ultra-reasonable price!). There were problems with the initial release, but they seem to have been fixed - the development team was also very prompt about responding to my e-mail... All in all, I'm extremely impressed.

Truly innovative application
by jonstieg
This is the first iPhone app that has made me say "wow". It is perfect for writing quick notes without grammar. Really easy to use if you read the few intro notes. I find myself wishing I was writing with the program now.

What a waste time
by Kotha
I tried for an hour or so and it had not given a word what I am tring to type. Keyboard is way better than this App. Please don't waste your time on it.

Solid app
by jsayreallen
A very well done app. I would love to have this implemented in the firmware to have it as an option in the rest of the iPhone UI.

Awesome but
by Nobi Sheikh
Great app and concept. I just wish this can be integrated with text messaging. For now this can only be used for fun or composing new email messages.

Ditto!
by MrFrank505
I think it's really lame, the regular note pad is much better.

does what it says, needs work
by jdsd
3 3/4 stars for creativity & potential; even after just a few words, i could see how the interface could be speedier, especially since one can swtich between this & traditional tapping just fine. the tracing of finger motion as feedback is both fur & useful. but a few things need to happen for this to make the leap from toy to tool: - obviously needs to be available to other apps; as a standalone app, i just won't use this much. someone already mentioned txt MSG integration. - word suggestions disappear too fast. why not leave them up until the next user entry begins? - can't get back to edit other stuff, or at least when i tried, no such luck; the magnifying glass would be useful. - should obey my iPhone general capitalization prefs, and not cap the beginning of every first word if i have my prefs set not to do that. a worthy effort, but probably won't get used by me much.

Genius!!

Wow this app is so cool. When I tried it I was impressed. Who ever thought of this app is a genius.

Works well but too slow
by Komsan
The programworks just as described but I fin that I work a lot better on the atandars keyboard with my two thumbs. I can really see how this might appeal to older people who aren't accustomed to using their iPhones with two fingers so this might suit them better.

Text messaging please!
by Tyufgftf355455
Would have given five stars if you could use it for text messaging! That should be the purpose of this app anyway. If it could be an optional keyboard on the iPhone, then you could use it for everything. It would be the most popular app in the entire app store...and you could charge for it!

nope, 1.0.1 still crashes
by fwoomp
After upgrading to 1.0.1, I gave it two tries and it still crashed both times. Mind you, I can write longer notes now, but this application is quite useless to me until the crash issue is really fixed. It's a cool concept, but it only gets 1 star from me until I can really trust it. To make it crash, just write at least 10 lines' worth of words in a paragraph.

Pretty intriguing
by mikey_a
I've only played around with it enough to write a few paragraphs of notes, but it definitely does a good job figuring out what I'm writing. Maybe I'll use this as my main notes app on the iPhone for a while (instead of the built-in one) to get a better feel for the longer-term efficacy of using it.

Lame
by Joerj11
Really hard to use. iPhone keyboard is much better. Don't waist your time.

It Works!!
by slbrown
I was skeptical, but pleasantly surprised that it has worked perfectly for the short time I've used it. The program knew the nickname I use for my daughter. I assume it pulled it from my contacts. My husband will love this program, since he hates to type. Thank you ShapeWriter for sharing this with the iPhone community.

What's the point of this
by Rock Solid
Wow I can't believe I wasted my time downloading this, I type way faster with the original iPhone keyboard Boooooooo! Better apps please this phone is getting more and more boring everyday!!!

Good application
by lar3ry
The application works as described. It would be great if this could actually replace Apple's keyboard implementation (add it as an "alternative" keyboard, selectable from Settings, for example), but I don't think Apple's SDK would support that. It's nice that it can send your message to the Mail application so you can email your note to a friend. What else would make it super? Add folders for your notes. It's nice to have the program documentation as "notes," but I'd like to keep them (in a "Help" folder), but not clutter up my main listing. I'd also like to have a folder for "Work" and "To Dos," etc.How about landscape mode? That would be very useful.

nice application, but crashes frequently
by me999
nice application. at first it didn't get it, but after reading the instuctions again I realized that you are not drawing the letters on the screen, you are dragging your finger from key to key on the keyboard. Duh, right? anyway, it work remarkably well. Only if the crashing can get put under control would it be a top productivity app. Crashing kind of kills productivity....

Horrible!!!
by mikedaike
This app is stupid!!!! its harder to write than the regular keypad

REALLY WORKS
by kevindwalsh
Great program. Clean interface, accurate word recogintion, easy to use. Would pay for this.

Amazing
by Rictoo
Wow, I would imagine it quite difficult creating an algorithm that can tell when you've arrived at a letter even at high speed!

Takes too much time to look at and see if app got my words right
by calliopeblue
A couple stars for creativity and filling a niche, since so many people seem to love this app. I am faster on the built in keyboard. This app is based on you using one finger and dragging your way through the letters, which is an awkward method for a naturally fast touch typist (as I am). I feel as though I'm misspelling words (multiple letters don't matter in this app since you're not really typing... it's more like you're guiding the app into choosing what word you're thinking of). Overall I didn't enjoy it and felt I spent more time correcting it & trying to scroll through word alternatives than was really worth it to me. I can see how others who aren't as proficient on the built in keyboard would like it, but if you are a good typist who finds the built-in keyboard simple, this app feels like an unnatural and stilted way to get the words out.

Brilliant app! 1 small large bug
by Billifer
If this had been Apple's input method from the beginning of the iPhone, not a single person in 20 years would ever remember that horrible letter-drawing thing we had to learn to use PDAs a decade ago. This is revolutionary in both its idea and its implementation, and Apple would be well advised to snatch up this company, incorporating the technology into every single text input box from notes to calendar to setting wi-fi network name preferences with the next firmware update. This is simply THAT GOOD.Having said that, though, there is what I call a "small large bug" -- whenever I key in something like "..." (dot dot dot), the app trashes my note, crashes, and returns me back to the main screen, sorry 'bout my luck. I imagine it's a buffer overflow because, given the method of text input, the developers probably didn't anticipate anyone entering text quickly enough to fill an input buffer before it could be taken off and processed. However, with single-key input such as '...' (ellipsis), this is exactly what happens, and the app crashes horribly. ShapeWriter, if you're reading, take note; it's likely an extremely easy fix (i.e., increase the buffer by 2-3 times) and there's no problem! Also, I find the question mark in a horrible location for my fat fingers, especially with a case on my iPod Touch. Perhaps that says more about my fingers than the app. ;-)

Seems flawed
by wyneken
I'm surprised by how poorly this works for me. There are two real problems: - The spell-guessing is, I mean, TERRIBLE. It can't get from "thos" to "this" -- only one key-space apart and presumably a pretty common error. - While the concept is appealing, the practicalities are less so. It's hard to trace a pattern through keys you can't see because your finger totally covers them. The keypad is even smaller than the standard iPhone version because the software crams in more choices -- which in turn makes errors more common and the flawed error-correction so crippling. I was hoping to like this but it just makes the ordinary hunt-and-peck method look really slick by comparison.

Apple, buy this technology
by JERKS-R
This app puts the regular iPhone keypad to shame. And even better, with practice it'll probably be faster than using a physical keypad. If Apple added this functionality to everything on the iPhone, Blackberry/TREO users would start being upset that they COULDN'T input text using a touchscreen. Bravo, ShapeWriter.

Reminds me of something
by Squeezing
This is just like notes whitch came with the iPhone. Plus the drawling key bord pad adds extra letters that it went over and it crashes alot. :0

Wow!
by Johnny Nimbus
I find the keyboard on the iPhone/Touch to be really awkward. I was delighted with how well WritingPad works. There are some bugs in it, but it can be used to send email. This should be an option for all keyboard input on this platform

These kind of apps make the app store great!
by Intro24
I loved it! Within about five minutes I was typing as fast as I can with the standard keyboard. My only complaint is that it sometimes crashes as I'm using it. I hope to see a landscape mode in the future along with some more creative features even if I have to pay. I beg you to partner with Apple to make this a keyboard option so I can use it at all times.

Impressive
by Sdsu1224
Exceeded expectations by far

Love it
by Practicaljane
I would love to be able to use this for everything on my iPhone, not just in the notes. So fast and easy! Once the crash kinks are worked out, that is! Apple should adopt this as an option.

Absolutely astounding...
by JustJaded
I'd just like to thank everyone who was involved in making this app because a like to say this is hands down by far the most effective application out for the iPhone yet IF apple would somehow implement it into the iPhone os as a default keyboard immidiatly!

Promising concept, disappointing app
by James Baxter
I was a little skeptical reading all these fawning reviews, suspecting that the app, in practice, wouldn't yield the magical results that seem to be promised. Having now used it, I can confirm its shortcomings. The idea of just tracing your finger over the letters of a word via the onscreen keyboard and having it appear correctly is awesome, but more often than not this program spits up the wrong word, and sometimes the correct word doesn't even appear as an alternative. In other words, the actual text prediction is pretty lousy and you frequently end up having to just peck the letters in old-school. Oh, and forget about punctuation: the shape interpreter doesn't seem to be able to anticipate contractions. And did I mention the app is really slow (try scrolling) or that there doesn't appear to be any way to revise what you've previously entered short of deleting everything back to that point in the document? NEEDS MORE WORK.

Genius!!!
by Babiipiink
I love this application. Apple should have really thought about implementing this type of input into the iPhone.

impressive!
by green_gaze
wow this system works great!!! you just slide your finger from one letter to the next spelling out what you wanna type. it takes care of spaces and everything. totally recommend!!

Well.......

This is a great app but the problem is it is faster to use the traditional ipod keyboard to type words. So this type of software isn't the greatest right now but it was a nice attempt

cool idea, but it keeps crashing and when it comes back all my stored notes are gone! That makes it a useless application. Also, it fails on some simple words. maybee in 6 months this will be a good app, as of now its not worth a download

much easier than the default keyboard
by bragusa
takes a bit of practice, but not bad once you get used to it. Can apple add an option like this instead of the normal keyboard? crashed a few times...

Great App

It's easy to use, and even faster, foe me anyway, than my iPods actual keyboard. I wish it could replace my iPods actual keyboard.

Very impressive app! For some reason the app crashes on me a lot so I can't use it but once fixed I could see myself using this to compose all my emails. Great work-thanks very much.

Make this the standard input
by Tim Henderson
This thing is incredible. I installed it last night and immediately was able to "type" faster. It works great. I sure hope Apple buys this and builds it into the iPhone's OS. Thanks for building in email support- otherwise as a notepad only this thing would just be a tease. Now if we could just use it across all apps. . .

Um.....
by Ferrari Adict
Isn't this the same app as note which the iPhone already comes with the new update???

Not perfect but amazing none the less
by enc7
My first impression was, WOW! I wrote six words quickly and it got five of them correct. Two letter words can cause trouble. Also, it can't figure out the word "What's," so that's why I gave it 4 stars. Oh, and it doesn't store your unique words after you shut it down which is a bummer, but not the worst thing in the world. They can hopefully change that in an update. This is much quicker than the regular notepad and if perfected, could be (should be) a new way to type on iPhones in all keyboard situations.Another annoyance is that you can't use "foul" language. If you had the ability to save added words this wouldn't be a problem. Again, maybe next update.

Crash
by Toaster aviator
The system of typing works well, but the application crashes every thirty seconds. Useless.

Awesome!!!
by Nailbomb
Great input mechanism. I hope this becomes a standard keyboard on the iPhone.

Why you can't use it
by Euicho
I think this app is awesome and way easy to use. The people that have a hard time using it are non touch typists. That is, people that have to look at the keys when they type. If you are one of these people, then this app is probably not for you.

Very addictive

Awesome application. I wish this were built into the iPhone.

i <3 this app. i can actu type w/o lifing my fingers. 4 those of u saying that its hard 2 type cuz ur finger covers the keys. i had no prob w/ that. i mean, i knew where all the letters r, sooo...

It has a few issues.
by Wh00t
The keyboard layout is a little weird...I wish that the same concept was applied to the traditional apple keyboard. If you hold down the delete key, it wont do anything, meaning that you have to delete mistakes one word/letter at a time. Also, the magnifying bubble that apple uses is missing. It definatly replaces notes for me!

Pointless
by ANTSIPHONE
Only thing it has is you can email a note but you could always just send a email so it's a waste but hey it's free

Fake reviews?
by Not an employee
These reviews STINK as employee-generated.

Fun, and easy
by thepresence34
This application is alot better than the notepad that apple gives you. It is really fun to write.

Apple should buy this...
by dmetzcher
Apple would do very well to take note of this great little app. The writing style is amazing and should be added as an optional input method for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Apple purchased CoverFlow and incorporated it into iTunes, then the iPhone/iTouch, then OS X. This should be their next acquisition. Great job!

Neato - easy to try
by fgdgfdfdfd
I got it after the second word! Forget letters. This writes words!

Not ready for prime time
by Who needs a nickname???
I don't understand all these great reviews....I find it extremely difficult/impossible to see the letters while spelling the word. You have to move your finger around in order to see the next letters, which causes the wrong word to appear. Very frustrating! It also has some bugs at this time. It would probably be much better with a landscape mode so that the letters would not be so tiny and close together. I find the standard iPhone keyboard much easier to use.

Awesome Application
by Incnway5
This is such a cool idea. I wish there was a way to replace SMS with this feature!

Great writing program
by nikkif1982
I love how fun it is to write words in a whole new way!

Love It!
by pt.massage
As everyone else said I love this App! Should definitely be the default keyboard for the iPhone/iPod Touch! Keep up the good work!

Love it!
by JJAA
I wish apple figured this out so we can write everything this way on the phone.

Excellent app!
by Kjmph
So, when I first got my iPod touch I thought I could drag my finger on the keyboard to spell. It seemed like the natural way for a soft keyboard to work. It turns out that ShapeWriter solves with a really elegant app. Two requests for improvement tough. First of all, it would be nice to fix the email feature so there was an excepted convention for specifying the subject line. It would reduce the duplication of the subject in the body of the message. Secondly, can the default keyboard be replaced? I wish it were the case, this app is that good!

Not 2 Great
by Audi RS4
This is a good idea but it is hard 2 use and u can't use on any thing else but notes.I wouln't recommend it

WOW!
by ethemoon
This thing works!! Touch pad problem solved!! thank you! this is a two thumbs up app that anyone who is pissed about iphones touch pad should download this thing. Apple, why did you not think of this?

The most innovative app ever
by J. Kobayashi
The title says it all. I would have never thought about typing like this but it's so much easier (and fun)! It's like playing 'connect the dots' when you were a kid. Truly something Apple should implement in their own keybaord (as an option).

WritingPad Rocks!
by willlyboy
I love this input method. After five minutes, I was typing (sliding) with little effort.......Makes one handed typing a breeze...This will be implemented in "cut&paste".

Works so well, I wish it was instead of the standard keyboard.
by Captainobvious
Works amazingly, I wish I could text with it. It's the next T9.

Execellent!!!!!!
by Drake66
Works really good and really accurate faster than the iPhone keyboard but just make sure you hit the right keys

Woot---Woot
by Heckle2
A must have!

Great Keyboard!!!
by Karas74
This is one of the coolest typing apps I've ever seen! It works, and could likely represent a possible permanent successor to the current iPhone soft keyboard. Both are great, but the speed with this application is greater, and makes the soft keyboard even more useful.

This app is pretty neat
by Dieburnbot
I like this app a lot I didn't think that it would work well but it is actually easier to type with this keyboard then it is on the iPhone keyboard. On the iPhone I try to type with my thumbs and it is easy on the horizontal keyboard but when when it is vertical it can be kind of hard to make sure you are hitting the right buttons with your fat thumbs. This app makes it really easy and I like that about it. I can still type faster with the standard iPhone keyboard though.

The best iPhone app, hands down
by Saket
I know it has been only few days since app store has been released but don't think we will see any app with a better idea than this one. I completely agree with some comments made by other reviewer that APPLE should take notice and implement this app as a part of future software upgrade for iPhone. The only issue with the app is that it's not stable enough but still can't give anything but 5 stars to the app...amazing idea and pretty well implemented....

Revolutionary
by I_<3_music
I love the techonolgy, and I hope it will soon become one that Apple adopts for the iPod touch and iPhone keyboards. With practice I have become much faster at using this type of typing than the traditional way. My only holdback is that it has crashed a few times while I was writing a note. When I returned to the app my note was not there. I hope this can be fixed in the next update.

Fun, but not sure it's efficient
by Fiontar
This is fun and does work. I'll also grant that with practice you will probably get quicker with it. However, I just wonder how efficient it is vs. the standard keyboard. I find myself pausing to make sure I'm dragging my finger to the proper spot. Even though I don't consider my fingers particularly large for a man, not being able to lift your finger while writing a word did make it difficult sometimes to hit the proper letters. Add in the delays when you have to go to the alternative choice list, I'm just not convinced this is more than a fun novelty. (If we could use a stylus with an iphone/touch, this app would be much more efficient to use).

Fantastic... That's It
by was_I_there?
This application was one of the most innovative and impressive app I’ve seen so far. It added the correct word to the paragraph 99% of the time even when I was drawing sloppy on purpose. I am amazed (but thrilled =) that the developer is not charging for this app when there are flashlights that cost $2 and can be created in three seconds by opening a new xcode project or replicated by opening a new page in MobileSafari. Apple cannot rate the quality of these apps and determine whether they should be in the app store because it is subjective and unfair but I think a few exceptions could be made (flashlight, cough, cough =). The only thing I was not so crazy about was the non-native UI. I understand that it would be impossible to add a line-draw (for lack of a better term) to the built-in keyboard and that it would be almost not feasible to recreate the "iPhone" style keyboard, but I still think it draws from the appeal of the app.Anyway, a fantastic job to the developer and to Apple, I agree with the above post, you should hire these guys!

very good start
by vanderbob
A very impressive app, crashes once in a while but does not lock up iphone. Keys sometimes are obscured by the drawing finger tip. Keep on improving it Shapewriter!

Awesome
by Adwiz
I was skeptical that this would actually work, but after using it I was blown away. As someone who is pretty good with the existing iPhone keyboard, I was shocked at how well this worked. So far it has proven faster than my normal one-finger typing, but I haven't encountered any new words so far which aren't in the dictionary, so I'm not sure if my opinion will change over time. I also love how it automatically takes care of avoiding typos.

Useful, Fun, Simple, Accurate
by Peter Duggins
This is possibly the best app out there, and I have seen quite a few! Very accurate word recognition, simple design, and a whole lot of fun. And all for free! Please download this.

AWESOME
by kreiderb
This is really nice. I would love to replace the iPhones regular keyboard with this. It works really, really well.

This is nothing more than a novelty
by rallycar27
The original way of typing is 1,000 times faster than this program.

Hard D:
by Bluenana
I found this app to not be easy Everytime I tried to just use a simple word I had problems because without noticing I had kinda gone over some other letters and that's when this app gets frustrating Plus you might get used to using this notes 'drawing the word' technique when you on any other app that takes typing

The First Must-Have iPhone App
by George Barlow
Wow! This is the first must-have application I have seen for the iPhone. I can't wait to see this application grow in functionality and sophistication. Simply great work.

Great product, when it becomes stable. (also add landscape keyboard and voice feedback)
by 7over
Amazing app. I love it! The problem is that it crashes far too frequently to be useful. The app is very very easy and accurate... even fun to use. But each time I write a longer text with it, it crashes and erases everything I've shaped (typed)! That is quite frustrating and makes me shun the app for fear that it will crash and I'll have to re-enter the text all over again. Please make this app stable and I'll use it all the time!Enhancements (after it's stable) would be 1. A landscape keyboard (That would make it easier for me to see the keys my finger is hovering over. 2. 'Voice feedback'. Each key my finger slides over is 'voiced' so that I know that I've 'arrived' at the key I want even if I can't see the key beneath my finger. An Un-enhancement for you to consider: Don't change the subject of the email being copied into if that email is already open and is a 'reply'. That is a bit frustrating.

Very neat and email friendly
by birdjunker
Only used it for about 10 minutes so this isn't real world long term usage review - This is a very cool app for us big fingered, old, people who aren't fast, experienced texter's :) It really does work well! You just slide your finger around to spell out the words (don't lift finger). For double letters like "Tool" just spell "Tol" and it will automatically double it - You can also add any personal words easily to the huge lexicon of words already provided. It auto capitalizes and after every word you type you are given a variety of similar words as other optionsOnce finished with the text you write, you can email it to someone in your contacts easily. My only concern is that I sometimes cannot see where I'm going with my big fingers, but I can easily zig zag a bit.

Awesome app!
by alc rrr
I agree with other reviewers that apple should integrate this into the iPhone OS. Hasn't been buggy for me (yet) either.

Looks good
by Lost Beans
I don't see an exclamation mark, though (O.K., so maybe that's not a deal stopper for most people). I'd like to see this as a standard feature on iPods, too.

Amazing!
by Trev
Apple should at least impliment this as an option in their next major update.

Really great potential
by memobug
I'd love to be able to select this as the default entry system; it's that good. However it did kick me out a couple of times into the desktop and it promptly forgot everything I'd entered in past sessions as well as the customized entries. The two notes I'd entered became blank with a date of December 1969.

Too good!
by P-veera
Loved it!

Perfect Writing App Easy To Use And Learn

Very nice
by Hani-CA
I think Apple will overcome the typing concern if the implemented this technology as the default key pad. Don't get me wrong. I like the current keypad, but this new approacheill give hesitant customers multiple ways to type. Very nicejob guys

Sw rocks!!!!
by Vukster
This app should replace notepad!!! Seriously! You can tap on the keys just like the regular notepad or you can draw shapes to spell the word on the keyboard!!! I wish SMS and other text input apps had this function !!! Great job on this app, A++++++!!!!

Awesome proof of concept
by iLight user
This is an awesome idea that I would love to have implemented into the rest of iPhone apps!

Nice little app!
by cryogene
Works as stated. Very cool idea. Except my finger is too fat as it covers the keyboard as I'm dragging my finger and can't see if I'm really on that key or not :)

Good start at an app
by Nice but crashes
This would perfect if it didn't crash. It makes the iphone keyboard more useable. Hope they work the kinks out.

Don't waste your time - worse than using the keyboard
by nysalesman
I'll take Graffiti over this any day. First of all, you have to start at the letter your word begins with then drag to each subsequent key on the keyboard (trust me it's easier - and far more accurate - to peck at these keys than to deal with this ridiculous system, especially if you have a word that has two of the same letter after one another). Either way, you still have to look down at the keyboard. Please, won't someone develop writing recognition for the iPhone. I know there was a version of Graffiti that was available for jail-broken units. Why won't someone be smart and port that over to the Apps Store? The bottom line, I deleted this app shortly after trying to use it. I'm glad it was free because if I paid money for this junk I'd be really upset!

Wow!
by MatthewStorm
Very cool. Wish it would with all keyboards.

Suprisingly cool application. Worth every penny....oh wait its free;)
by D-Nutz
Wow this app works surprising well and is pretty accurate. After only using for a few minutes I can see how with a little more practice one could type faster....but Im pretty good using two thumbs with keyboard so idk. App is crashing on me so I don't see using it too much for now. I suspect the app crashing is at least partially the fault of 2.0 firmware and not just with application.

Really works!
by Jin_21
Pretty incredible. Might get some getting used to, but it's really inventive and makes typing faster.

Awesome
by E Gingras
I didn't expect this to work at all, but it worked perfectly. Try it out! I wish I could send text messages with this.

A fun toy
by leftspin
This is definitely a fun toy and I appreciate the developer's effort on creating it. I wouldn't use of for real note taking since I feel you need to be more accurate than the built-in keyboard. You can mess up a lot with the built-in keyboard and it still does a good job with guessing what you typed. Not so with this app.

Great, just one thing
by D4nny.
I'm absolutely in love with this app. It's SO much easier to type this way than with the regular keyboard. It should be built into the iPod touch and iPhone. I just have one major complaint: every time I press a punctuation mark a single time, it crashes my iPod touch. Fix that, and this could easily become a necessity on everyone's iPhone/touch. :]

This will catch on like wildfire!!
by tryanapple
What an awesome free application! In just a few strokes I had the technique down. The best compliment I can give this app is that it is worth a whole lot more than free. Spread the word everyone!

Amazing!
by Prange57
This technology should be included as an option with a lot of iPhone / iPod Touch apps! I think it will become the next revolutionary step in virtual keyboard text entry. Try it - it's free - and you will see what I mean!

Nice idea, but flawed implementation
by Peter Hosey
The tracing idea is good, and it works in practice, but the rest of the app has some flaws that stop me from using it.First off, it doesn't remember words you teach it across a quit and relaunch. This is the more major flaw—I cannot use words like “Adium” if the app won't remember them.Second, and more minor, its toolbar doesn't fit in on the iPhone—mostly because it uses a different font, for no obvious reason. The whole app would be better off if it just used Helvetica for everything. New icons would be welcome, too—the email icon, in particular, looks weirdly distorted. They do not resemble standard iPhone icons.I look forward to a version of this application that fixes these flaws.

One Clever Little App
by Shell in MS
Love this app. I really would like for this to be a default on the regular keypad. It makes writing twice as fast (if not faster)!! Well done!

Great Idea
by Cryptopulse
This is a great idea and saves lots of time once you get used to it, but this app seems more like a proof-of-concept. To really make this useful, could the developer please talk to apple about making a replacement for the standard iPhone keyboard?

Very nifty notes
by felipey
I'm very impressed with this nifty application. I've been looking for a better way of taking notes on my ipod touch and this is definitely the solution i was looking for. I found myself just typing random things just because it was so fun to use it.

Nice App
by blkpoetx
I was shocked at how easy it was to use, it would be nice if apple gave the option of using different keyboards (for email chat etc) ... i really like this app.

Great
by AMFresh
This is a very food application, which works surprisingly well. It is a tad buggy though. The application closed twice on me so far, for no apparent reason. All things considered it is still very good.

Amazingly Fast!
by JoeBloe234
This is a wonderful application; I write faster with WritingPad than with iPhone's touch keyboard or with Blackberry's keypad. Very intuitive! A must Try!!

Landscape please
by WouldUdoit
One more thing. PLEASE add LANDSCAPE MODE support. That would be unbeatable!

Wonderfully made!
by wazzupist
This kind of app should be the default typepad for the iPhone and iPod touch. Made with true knowledge.

Very nice
by NC Gator
A nice feature id like to see it as an option on the iPhone

Near but not for me.
by JmanAK
I like it, and it really works but I can't see myself using it in a practical sence. If it were apparent in more programs then maybe I would say different.

awesome
by royaletr
This application DESERVED all the five stars and a review. Definitely a must have. It's so amazing how intuitive this is. The mailing ability is a well thought and executed plus.

Hmmm
by Jayemar1
Try writing the word "pretty" with this program, I keep getting something else, I won't say what... Just try it, maybe it's just me. Still PRETTY neat though. LOL.

Amazing
by Lemay
I agree, I wish we could use this keyboard asbthe standard on the iPhone. It is amazing.

It just works!
by GrfxGuru
I was expecting it to be a 50/50 chance of working right, but it absolutely works. I was trying to go quickly or some what sloppy with my movement on they keyboard but the application nailed it every time. Apple should hire these developers, everything the built in keyboard should have!My only request would be for a clear or delete line button somehow for quick deletion and editing.

Wow!
by DJ Trashy
I wish the default iPhone keyboard were this easy!

Great!
by organerito
It would be perfect if it supported other languages like Spanish and French.

Best App Yet
by Idgadm
This is great once you get use to it and that does not take long. Free... as well best app yet.

Great application
by Cle77450
This is a fantastic app. I was able to very quickly create messages and send them as emails about there times faster than using the iPhone's standard keyboard. I was skeptical at the concept at first but I am now very impressed: it works and works very well. This must be one of the best app in the store so far. And it is free! Sugesstion: A cut & paste feature to cut the text in this note pad and paste it in other applications would be great!

AMAZING I wish this could replace the normal keyboard
by cdosch
This is by far the best app yet. If this could replace the normal keyboard I would be sooo happy. Or at least be used for text messages. Until then its more of a novelty. Will be nice to email with. However, can't plan on writing too long of an email or it will freeze and force you to start over. Will look forward to an update that allowes the note to be pasted into a text message or google search field.

Crash
by Rator
I really wanted to love this app but the buggy nature leaves much to be desired. This app crashes quite frequently and notes that I've marked done does not appear until the app is restarted. Hopefully future versions will fix the crashes.

*It's Different*
by TrackStar_88
I think that the Shape Writing Pad, is a good app if you need to type something up in a less amount of minutes. It does help avoid embarrassing typos or grammatical errors, if you know how to work it!

This is free?
by Nitramdmij
This is a very intuitive application that I will most likely be using more than the the built in notes app. It takes a little getting used to but after playing with it for about 5 minutes, I am getting the hang of it. This is MUCH better than trying to wrap my large fingertips around the standard iPhone keypad. My only suggestion would be to be able to use this in landscape mode to get a little bit wider keyboard with more room to work and less errors. I would pay for that as a premium version of this though. Great app!

Not bad
by Andyfhc
It's an ok app. I wouldn't ever trade it for the original note app. I can type much faster on the real iPhone keyboard than I ever could with this, but I think it shows how smart people can be designing their own apps.

Ok
by Ajhman
Hard but cool

Disregard last review: App must be installed directly from iphone
by DugMug
As with many applications in the app store, you must download and install directly from the phone. Downloading and installing from itunes seems to cause problems with many programs. After downloading app directly to phone, works perfecly. Very intuitive and allows you to fly through typing on the especially touchy iphone keyboard.

Pretty cool.
by Matttnyc
This is pretty awesome. It makes it much faster to type a note or email. Its to bad you can't use it for SMS messages as well as e-mail. I hope that ability can be added later.

incredible
by Lentife
I was first skeptic about this, then I realized how accurate this technology is. Although it's not better or faster than the apple keyboard, it's worth downloading it and trying it! If the layout of the special signs was like on the iphone, it could have been a great alternative! Apple might introduce something similar in the near future!

Great!
by Toko Takagashi
This is a great app! I've been using similar software on my tablets for years, and now I'm able to write notes using this technology on my iTouch, and it's free! The only immediate thing I see at the moment is that the word change that pops up when scribbling only last for a fraction of a second for me and in my opinion should be lengthened a little bit. That's all I could find, but I'm sure you guys could think of great functionality and improvements to add!Keep up the good work.

Fantastic!
by Jewika
Incredibly intuitive. I wish I could make this replace the default keyboard.

very fast way of typing,
by ramp&king
once you get used to it, this is about twice as fast to type on compared to normal text.

Works well!
by midnightcry
I admit I was skeptical about this program but it works well. With very little practice I found it easier than using the keyboard to type a note. I like that the note can be emailed afterwards if needed.
